Has Anyone Driven An Escape?
 

I'm graduating and my present to myself is a car!! I'm thinking about an Escape! Has anyone owned one before? Is it ok on gas? Do you recommend it?!

My fiance use to have one. I drove it on many occassions. I liked. At first, I didn't think I would, but it was fun to drive. Sporty but not quite "soccer mom-ish". Gas mileage was decent, nothing horrible.

my parents have the mercury version of the escape- the mariner. i enjoy driving it. its not the best on gas and its not the worst. i get about 16.8 mph doing city driving, and around 20mph on highway. usually i avg 18mph overall (combo of city/highway). its got a small tank for an SUV though, i feel like i'm always filling the damn thing.

my car is a 94 explorer, and its def smaller than the explorer and with a smoother ride. i like the mariner better. i'm saving up to buy an escape hybrid.

My mom has a Tribute which is the same thing. She gets about 25 mpg which I think is crappy but maybe you don't.

They're fun to drive and they handle really well for an SUV.

I bought an Escape in October and I love it. It's very fun to drive, comfortable, and safe. If I had the $ I'd trade it in for the hybrid Escape. The gas mileage on the regular Escape isn't great, but it's much better on the hybrid. The Escape is a great size, too. Not too big, but big enough to handle everything I need.

dont they have a hybrid model? get that =)

Nevermind. I thought this thread meant escape as in had somebody ever driven a getaway car. That would be a good thread.

Hmm, my father worked at Ford for years and is I guess what you would consider a higher up (he would attend meetings with the actual tops of the ladders though he wasn't one himself :) ) and he suggested the Escape to me. While he isn't there any longer, he still has friends there. My step-mom loves hers and got a new one when the first lease expired.

Depending on where a person lives, a hybrid wouldn't necessarily be better. For instance, around here (Pittsburgh), it is not worth it. We have a lot of hills, which hybrids aren't supposed to do as well on. From what i've heard, they don't get that much better mileage. The additional cost of getting the hybrid doeesn't outweigh gas savings, if any.

Hybrids are only good for city driving. After a certain mph (usually between 25-35, i think) the engine reverts to using gas. Its the continous stopping that charges the battery. I do mainly city/stuck in traffic driving which is why I want one.

Also, it adds about $10,000 onto the base price of an escape.:(

There is some controversy over the life time of the battery and the possibility of it being non recycle-able.

i just bought an 06 Explorer because i am a soccer mom but i also like the escape if i wasnt a soccer kid driven mom. I too have driven a rental one weekend and their fun and right size if it just you and not toting around soccer and little league stuff

I really thought you meant driving an actual escape, like when J-Lo's friends drove her get away car in "Enough".....:confused:
