general guide for rushing a SEC school

I know that rush at SEC schools is a lot more competive and a lot different than rush at other schools, and since i am planning to do rush at SEC schools i was wondering if someone who is familiar with rush at a SEC school (particularly auburn or UGA) could give me advice on stuff like what to wear, what to talk about, and stuff like that. I know that there is some info on rush in other posts and stuff but i thought it would be really helpful for other people who want to rush SEC schools to have all the info in one post too... thanks

Keep your options open. I don't care if you're Southern royalty or you have a 4.0 or you were Miss Popularity and have tons of friends in the sororities---never ever make a mental list of sororities you will and won't join. You could find yourself with just those sororities left and then have to make the decision to either pledge one of those groups or not be Greek on that campus, because rushing a second time or as a sophomore rarely increases your chances.

Think it won't happen to you? I could tell you names of dozens of girls who've had that very thing happen in the last few years. You may be great but so are most of the other PNMs!

Good luck! Don't forget to get your recs NOW!

peruse the greek life websites at those compuses. auburn's is particularly informative, and you can even go back and look at past recruitments, so that the pnm has a pretty good idea of what to wear and what to expect. and don't EVEN think about rushing without recommendations!!

I attended UGA and went through fall formal rush in 2001. It is a very competitive rush, but here are the things that I will reiterate from what I'm sure others have already told you:
- Get recs for every chapter. So many girls go through rush that the chapters have to make lots of cuts, and the easiest way to make cuts is to first cut those without recs. Ask your mom, teachers, and any other important women in your life... even if they weren't Greek, they probably know people who were.
- Keep your options open. Very few girls determine their first choices the day recruitment starts and actually end up pledging that house on bid day. Think about what the positives are for every house and consider every option.
- Don't listen to gossip. Before I went to UGA, I heard all kinds of stereotypes about the houses. Most of them ended up being untrue.

If you have questions about UGA specifically, you can PM me.

Ditto for Auburn. You can also PM me if you have any questions :)

This is all excellent advice. I'm also available for UGA-specific questions. Good luck and enjoy your recruitment experience!

Of course, there will be a whole lot of less people for the DCC than with sororities, and going through recruitment and auditioning for a spot are two different things.

Then why make that analogy when you say that they are 2 different things? You should avoid giving recruitment advice, especially when you haven't had a successful recruitment experience.

SEC rushees, try to get advice from actual Greeks, who have had successful recruitment experiences, preferably at similar schools. It'll help.

My advice is echoing what someone said earlier....don't form opinions too early and don't make the "list of what you will and will not join"

After seeing Rush from every angle (rushee, star rusher, counselor) at a large SEC school, I'm still suprised every year about which houses some girls end up into! Good luck!

I actually went/go to both, so if you need advice from a guys view of AU/UGA sororities, let me know.
