NPC Question!!!
Okay, I am an officer for our NPC at my University, and I am aware that I am going to be disaffiliated from my sorority for recruitment purposes. However, here's the problem:
Our school is out May 4th and Recruitment Week is not until August 28th. Our Greek Advisor told us that we had to be disaffiliated from our organizations for that whole time period--no contact with our organizations, letters, etc. I got my NPC manual out and it says that the Recruitment team can only be disaffiliated for a period not to exceed 30 days. My manual is old, so I was wondering if this is still correct? Please help! Any advice on what to do? |
Actually I thought they updated the manual to say exactly what you did - 30 days is the max.
How on earth is your Greek advisor going to know, anyway - school is out for the summer!! |
You would be surprised! She's the type of Greek advisor that is so caught up in everybody's personal lives that she's knows all the dirt that goes on. We only have 4 sororities on campus with a relatively small campus (less than 8000 students), so its easy for someone to find out what someone else is doing.
|
I'd point it out to her...as in actually bring the physical NPC manual to her. She may just not be aware.
|
30 days is correct.

At our school they say the same thing. The only difference is that we can hang out with the Gamma Chi/Rho Chi or whatever at any place that is 21 or over or at their house.

Our Panhellenic is trying something like the situation the original poster describes. I think it's really odd.
It's more of a "gradual disaffiliation". Recruitment isn't until September, but starting last week, the SRC's (Recruitment Counselors) are supposed to refrain from wearing stitched letters, and by the end of the semester, there should be no mention of their GLO on their facebook/Myspace pages, but they are still allowed to attend chapter functions and associate with members. Actual disaffiliation doesn't occur until a few weeks before recruitment in the fall, and that is when the full NPC Green Book Recruitment Counselor regulations go into effect. |
Okay, so I confronted our Greek Life Advisor and told her about the handbook, including the page number, etc. and she said that our school has had a summer disaffiliation regulation locally. I then asked her to see the regulation in writing, just because I want to clearly understand what makes our school so special that we can't follow the NPC rules, and she told me that it is not in writing; it is just a "verbal agreement" among sororities on campus. :(
I called my sorority chapter advisor and she's going to have a meeting with her and she has also called our local NPC rep. I'm not trying to cause problems--just understand our local rules and question why we have let this go on for so long if it is against the rules! |
Go you! I'm really proud of you to take a stand like that and try to get some results. I think we have a similar problem like that at my school but I"m not 100% sure. I do know that at least partial dissafiliation takes place on either June or May 4th.

Our Rho Gammas (dammit I still want to say Rho Chi!) disaffiliate May 1st until Bid Day which could be as late as mid-September. We are a commuter only school and people are always on campus or hanging out in town so it's really important for our Rho Gams to disaffiliate. They can hang out with sisters in a private setting. |
slightly O/T
It's been mentioned before I"m sure, but it seems kind of useless to take off the greek affiliation from myspace/facebook, etc.
Sure you will have other greeks as your myspace/facebook friends, but it's kinda obvious you're an ABC when you have 150 ABC sisters as your myspace/facebook friends and only 40 or so members of each of the other organizations on your contact list... :) |
Honestly it's just pointless all together. All these girls that wanna rush go and ask fraternity men anything they want to know including:
Which Rho Gamma is what? Which chapter is the "best"? etc. etc. etc. We do it for no valid reason other than to force them to ask fraternity guys these things instead of us! LOL </rant> |
