Seniorty and chapter

over my last spring break I visited a few chapters Iota-zeta Scorpion Pi-Omega and the Epsilon-chi chapter each time I went to them they told me that if your chapter is older and you visit a younger chapter you have seniority over them is this true and if it was everyone at cornell could have pulled scroll

TKEPhiLLy 04-28-2006 01:51 AM

never heard of that. I just know when people visit us (no matter what scroll) ur still taken care of, and as our guest no one pulls scroll over even if they might have higher then u..

pulling scroll

that may be a local thing. As Gamma Phi 133, I transferred to
Alpha Phi, became high scroll something like 455.1. Another one
transferred from Beta Omega, he became 455.2, and yet another
from Hays became 455.3; we had an initiation, began with 456,
and so on. Scroll means little except in some local situations.
These numbers assigned as "in between" ones are hypothetical anyway. As a transfer, though, I became "low man on the totem pole." Why are you worried about it anyway, you are a guest, and you must have forgotten your manners. Pulling scroll is kinda
obsolete, but some chapters use it as kind of a seniority.

Why worry about numbers? Why not just go by when you were initiated? In my case, spring of 96...

We used chapter scroll with all the GA chapters anyways.

At the Gamma-Nu chapter we never used scroll for a seat or for someone to get a beer it was only used for serious reasons for elections who went first things like that but not for trival things that some chapters do

smart ass

one of the rare times I saw Tex Flint angry was when I asked him what his scrotum number was. After my bowing and scraping, he
said he was initiated in '08 and they had no such thing then. But
it was instituted later, perhaps a filbert reading this could expound on the scroll history. SAE used to use a national number, but others have somewhat of a scroll like ours. We have
not yet hit 2,000 in any chapter, but are close, may do it this year.
We used to engrave the frater's initials, chapter and scroll # on
the back of the badge, but now we have abandoned it and have a
plastic piece of ____. I treasure my custom made one, and will always envy Pete Leland's white gold one with diamond points.

Thats pretty much the only thing calling scroll in my chapter will get you.

Some people in my chapter try and use scroll, but it can't be enforced. Someone will obey scroll only if they respect the person scrolling them, in which case they will obey them anyways. We really only say it to get someone's attention in an important matter, usually when the other is drunk or there's alot of people talking loudly. Scrolling someone for some trivial stuff is bullsh*t. Me and some of my bros feel that once you are initiated you are a brother, not a pledge anymore, that makes you equal, then it goes by respect or if the person is an officer.
