Finerwomanhood
This party wasn't live....This party wasn't shit....Until Z-PHI-B stepped up in this BITCH!
While reading a message board, I saw that chant posted. I know I am not a member of Zeta Phi Beta, and maybe I'm out of line, but this chant seems to go against one of your founding principles, that of Finerwomanhood (which is what interests me most about your sorority)Don't get me wrong, I know we are not perfect, and I'm the last person to criticize anyone for bad language, because I have used it in the past, but something about the "B" word being used in the same breath as Zeta Phi Beta seems a little wrong to me..What do you all think? |
I'm not a member, but I always have an opinion. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif No matter what organization it is, greek or otherwise, there will always be members who don't exemplify the principles the org was founded upon. They slip through the cracks, and that's just life. All 4 NPHC sororities are represented on my campus, and I can't see ANY of them saying anything like this. I think it's important to take things like this with a grain of salt and realize it's not necessarily a reflection on the org as a whole. Having said that, of course I think it's classless and inappropriate.
I want to add a twist to the question. If a sorority said this chant, they would be questioned immediately for their lack of class and dignity. But if you heard a frat perform the same chant, would it have the same bearing on your opinion of them? Why or why not? [This message has been edited by SweetestDiva (edited June 11, 2001).] |
Clearly, the chant is inappropriate. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif
((Sigh)). Sometimes, it would be much easier if Zeta were a social club, a group of "buddies" where everyone thought alike, acted alike, dressed alike. Zeta is not such an organization. We are a Sorority dedicated to service composed of women from all ethnicities, economic backgrounds, political and religious convictions. Sometimes, women in Zeta forget that this organization is not about US, but it is about upholding the Principles and Missions given to us by our Five Pearls. It is THEIR organization, continued into perpetuity by US, its Members. You are right shannieglass, no one is perfect. People make mistakes. Within THIS organization, my Sorors are honor-bound to accept correction by her Sorors. Therefore, the key to watch is not whether a Zeta woman make mistakes, but how her Sorors assist her in correcting them. ------------------ Finer Womanhood: the "Cat's Meow" Since 1920 |
Go Shel!! That's an awesome answer.

I am appalled that one of my sorors would post such a chant on a message board. Like my Soror Shel said, each and every soror is honor bound to accept correction from her sorors in the event she is acting inappropriately. I have always felt that using chants in which there is a lot of profanity is unbecoming and unnecessary. One of the signs of a limited vocabulary is the use of excessive profanity...and I know my sorors are creative enough to write chants without curse words!!!!!!
