U. Pitt @ Johnstown

The Army is moving my family to Johnstown, PA. My wife will serve in an Active Duty support job for an Army Reserve unit there.

Should Bete Theta Pi decide to expand at U. Pitt @ Johnstown, I am there to support.

Good luck with your move brother, and best wishes for your wife and her active duty.

It would be nice if the G.F. still allowed for interest groups to form a chapter of Beta.

Unfortunatly, they don't. A brother from my chapter had to transfer to another school for some family reasons and had a large group of men interested in starting a Beta Chapter at his new school.

He was told not a chance.

Expansion

What happened to the process of getting three of the closest chapters to support an expansion colony and the group submitting the petition?

I did I miss some major changes to the By-laws and Constitution since I pledged in Jan 83?

That is not entirely true. Interest groups can become Beta colonies/chapters. But, it takes more than just 17 guys and a semester worth of interest. Colonies take years, and a good group of guys, help and support from neighboring chapters...etc. Don't forget, GF will not just go to any campus. They have reasons why they will/will not expand at certain locations. They also have plans for expansion, where resources are allocated 2-3 years in advance. An interest group can't just come on, colonize and charter in 1.5 years - not possible. Again, we're not TKE.

I checked into that also, because my chapter was very interested in making a joint effort with other chapters in my district to help re-colonize a few chapters that had gone in-active.

We were told that wasn't the way it's done and they didn't want our help.

I do think that the G.F. is making some poor decisions in it's expansions. There are a few schools that have extremely weak greek systems that Beta has expanded into, yet some of the more robust greek systems have been ignored.

One thing I do agree is that Beta needs to expand more. To more schools, especially the established greek systems. There is no reason why we couldn't be doing double what we are today....that said, where we are expanding today, AO is doing a damn fine job.

I hear that they are planning to expand at UNC-Wilmington next year... which will be cool for our chapter because I'm sure they'll be asking for our help given how close we are to them. That'll make 4 chapters in NC finally.

TKE's and PKA's expansion at Indiana State (Larry Bird went here!!!) is part of what hurt my Beta Colony. And to be honest, I do not know if it was the the lack of active support from the Delta, Pi and Tau chapters (I never saw them) or the lack of actively seeking their support from my Colony Actives.

Still, I hope Beta comes back to ISU. I would even settle for a combined chapter with Rose Hulman Institute of Technology on the east side of town.
