I hate shopping--and when did Catherine Zeta-Jones become plus-size?
I realize that thin women are played out like Cross Colors, Sinbad and light skinned brothers (jokie joke), but can a sister buy some clothes? Last night I was in a local department store and that awesome Royal Blue outfit came in no sizes under 10 and about 15 dresses size 16 and 18. (not hating on my plus-size sistahs, so don't take it that way).
Another issue...I am not a seamstress so maybe I am wrong about this. However, my common sense (yes, I have a little of it) tells me that a size 8 skirt takes less material to make than a size 26 skirt. Why in the world do they cost the same amount of money? If an outfit take twice as much material to make shouldn't it cost twice as much? Please not hate email. Just asking a very real question. |
Hey Soror:
Good question!! I'm a plus size sister, the size 26 you mentioned. It's been my experience that the opposite is true. My clothes always cost more, and I don't have a problem with it. Like you said more material. I havn't been in a store that sells a size 8 and size 26 with the exact same outfit. I'm a Ashley Stewart Lane Bryants gal. I also get lots of stuff made, especially for those Royal Blue and Pure white events. |
Calm down GiggyZ. Where did all of these "hostilities" come from? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Where were you shopping? I've seen you in person and I believe you should have no problem finding your size. Have you tried mail-order (Chadwicks of Boston for example)? Fret not, you are alright and your perfect fitting clothing is out there.....somewhere. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

I am calm. The other night was just a bad night to shop. I guess I wasn't supposed to spend that money anyway. |
Are you looking for something for a particular occassion?

GiggyZ I totally feel you on your statement. I ALWAYS have trouble when I go shopping, because I am a very small woman (I am 5'5", and I wear a size 3-4) From experience, the stores that ALWAYS tend to have the smaller sizes (at least in S. Florida) are The Limited and Lerner's. I think that some stores don't charge more for larger sized clothing because they think people may cry foul about it. Just an opinion. PrettyPetite |

Ok, GiggyZ, so how does Catherine Zeta Jones fit into all of this? I can't imagine that anyone with 2 funtioning eyes would think she is plus size.

I know this wasn't directed at me, but recently when I signed onto AOL, they had this big feature about how thin women were going out of style and curves and a little meat were back in. Some of the examples were Catherine Zeta Jones, Drew Barrymore, and JENNIFER LOPEZ. What. Ever. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif |

Those 'outfits of the week' are the shhhhhh...a whole outfit for $35 dollars sometimes...... http://www.plauder-smilies.de/flash.gif ...fits my 'broke college student' budget!!! |
They use to have a LERNERS PLUS here in Chicago, but They went bankrupt. I loved that store too. It gave us big gurls a chance to wear what you thin women are wearing, only in "OUR" size.

Okay, yall really need to come to NYC...Every store has siZes for dayZ. From -1 http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif (I couldn't believe it was a real size) to whatever.
If they started charging more for *bigger* sizes. What size would be the yard stick? A 0 would cost 1/2 of what a 6 costs? or would it be a 1/3 of it's cost? 1/6? It's too subjective for Price based on Size to be effective. But, that's JMHO. And, my stores are Arden B (why has no one heard of it!!! lol), Express and Guess. I rarely shop anywhere else. But, put me on...I'm open...lol ------------------ Sweeter than sugar and as good to you as milk ZETAS are Finer Women and they're smooth as silk. |
