Katie Couric Leaving Today

I'm excited that a female will finally be hosting an evening news program, but not sure I want Katie Couric to do it...

although...she was a Tri-Delt :)

BARF.

I wish they had kept Bob Schieffer - he's the bomb and the ratings went up.

and actually, Katie is not the first woman to anchor - Barbara Walters was - Katie is just the first one to do it alone.

You're mostly right. Connie chung was the first woman national news anchor -- but she was a co-anchor.

Hasn't Elizabeth Vargas of ABC Evening News been anchoring all by herself since Bob Woodruff is still recovering?

That is what I thought, I definitely saw her on the news tonight, but maybe since in a "regular situation" she has a co-anchor it doesn't count?

Yes, but technically that newscast is still dual anchor even though her co-anchor is recuperating from his woulds.

There have been a number of women who have anchored national newscasts, including Maria Shriever (Mrs. Governator). Campbell Brown anchored for Brian Williams when he had a family crisis a couple of weeks ago.

I think that Couric is the first woman to be chosen as the full time, single anchor of a network newscast.
