-We were invited to colonize at Grand Valley State in Michigan!

Below are the pr:

Phi Sigma Sigma Welcomes Colony at Barry University

Elkridge, Maryland, April 3, 2006 -
Director of Extension Alicia Scott announces the formation of a Phi Sigma Sigma colony at Barry University in Miami Shores, Fla. “The Fraternity is proud to welcomes our newest colony. We are excited to join the Barry University Greek system and contribute to the campus and local communities,” said Scott.

Phi Sigma Sigma volunteers and staff conducted the colonization recruitment at Barry from March 1-3, 2006. Membership Manager Lisa Daly served as the colonization team leader. Membership Coordinator Carolyn Barley, Delta Kappa chapter (Florida International University) alumnae Breny DaParre and Laura Amor, and Theta Xi chapter (Nova Southeastern University) alumnae Mary Suppa and Maria Terneus participated on the colonization team. DaParre will serve as the colony’s key advisor.

The colonization team made several presentations to interested campus women, sharing information on Phi Sigma Sigma’s core values, activities, programs, and membership responsibilities. Following two days of interviews, the team extended bids and the colony was formed. Special thanks to Delta Kappa chapter at Florida International and Theta Xi chapter at Nova Southeastern for their participation in the process. Delta Kappa will serve as the colony’s Sapphire Sister chapter.

“The women of the Barry colony are terrific. They are friendly, smart, and service-minded. I’m so excited to have had the opportunity to meet these women and participate in the formation of the colony,” said Daly. When asked during the interviews what they wanted the campus community to say about Phi Sigma Sigma, their responses included “they’re friendly, helpful and get things done in the community,” “sisterhood comes naturally,” “they live the Barry mission,” “they follow their values,” and “they’re role models – strong leaders who are united for something special.”

A formal bid day celebration and pinning ceremony was held on March 15, 2006. In the days following this ceremony, the colony began Phi Sigma Sigma’s Pathways colony program and elected officers. This is an exciting time for Phi Sigma Sigma internationally and at Barry University!

Phi Sigma Sigma Invited to Colonize at Grand Valley State University

Elkridge, Maryland, April 3, 2006 -
Director of Extension Alicia Scott announces that Phi Sigma Sigma has been invited to colonize at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich. “This is an outstanding opportunity to build to the walls of our pyramid and enhance the Fraternity’s strength in Michigan,” said Scott.

Colorado Expansion?

Hey there,

I was reading through the email about the new Community Archon's and the realignment of the regions. there was a link in the email to show what chapters will be in each new community. Under Region 9 (my region) it shows University of Colorado - Colorado Springs colonization and Metropolitan State University colonization (tbd). I don't remember any emails about new expansion possibilities. Has anyone else heard anything?

Yes, we will be expanding to both UColorado-Colorado Springs and Metropolitan State in Denver. It appears that we will have at least 5 colonies this Fall. The two in Colorado, Barry in FL, Grand Valley in MI, and as the realignment email reminded me we will be continuing to work on the recolonization of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Natalia & Feli will have their hands full visiting chapters!

It's official!!!

So the announcement went out yesterday! I'm so excited!

Press Release
Elkridge, Maryland (August 15, 2006) – Director of Extension Alicia Scott announces that Phi Sigma Sigma has been invited to colonize at Metropolitan State College of Denver and the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs (UCCS). “This is a unique opportunity to not only build to our walls, but also add a new state to our chapter roll,” said Scott.

Phi Sigma Sigma volunteers and staff will conduct a colonization recruitment at Metro State in September. Prior to this, Field Consultant Feli Tamparong (Theta Upsilon, University of LaVerne) will lead a public relations campaign to generate excitement and interest in the Fraternity.

Colonization procedures at UCCS require students to establish an interest group and petition the university for recognition as a Phi Sigma Sigma chapter. Field Consultant Natalia Arruda (Pi, Syracuse University) and Phi Sigma Sigma volunteers and staff will work with the UCCS students who have already expressed interest to recruit additional group members in September.

Chapter key advisors have been identified for both campuses. Alumnae interested in participating in either colonization or serving on the advisory board can contact Fraternity Headquarters at phisighq@phisigmasigma.org.

Phi Sigma Sigma joins Sigma Sigma Sigma international sorority at Metro State and Pi Beta Phi international sorority at UCCS. “We are looking forward to working with our NPC sisters to establish strong Panhellenic communities at Metro State and UCCS,” said Scott.
Phi Sigma Sigma is an international women’s fraternity founded in 1913 at Hunter College in New York City. Currently, Phi Sigma Sigma has over 55,000 initiated members worldwide, with 110 collegiate chapters and colonies and more than 100 alumnae groups across North America. More information on the organization can be found at www.phisigmasigma.org.
