Sigs may be allowed back at Oklahoma...

Saw this on Fraternal News...

Mar. 28--NORMAN --University of Oklahoma President David Boren has released
a timeline for possible reinstatement of Sigma Chi fraternity, which lost
its charter in 2004 after the death of a pledge.

The fraternity could regain its OU charter as soon as spring 2007, "so that
they may participate fully in the summer rush of 2007 and recruit new
members at the end of that time," Boren said in a statement issued Monday.

No comment on plans yet from Sigma Chi.

They had a very nice house. Do they stilll own it?

Three years seems pretty quick considering what happens with other chapters that get "death sentences." It's my understanding that, in most cases, the organization waits at least until everyone is graduated and has left school before attempting to rebuild the chapter.

That's what I vaguely recall hearing. I also heard pretty explicitly that the banishment was permanent. Sigma Chi was a pretty good sized house before this thing happened. OU fraternities really have a tough time bouncing back from these things. There are some that are huge and others that are not. Sigma Nu had an issue back in the mid 90's that brought them down from one of the top houses to around 12 members. They've been on a slow road to recovery, but 10 yeras later aren't where they were.
