RESPECTING YOUR ELDERS

I'm a relatively new member of the blue and white family (I'll be one years old in 9 days), so I've been a superneo and attending many events. One thing that is really disheartning to see is when new members of an organization do not listen to or respect those that came before them.
Earlier this week there was a greek forum at my school, and I saw so many "neos" (from all orgs) contradict their prophytes and outwardly disrespect them. I just sat and shook my head. The nongreeks who were in attendance, were not left with a good impression of "sisterhood" or "brotherhood". I mean it was just tacky.
Any feedback

Well...in order for people to give respect they must respect themselves first. Too many don't know what self-respect or self-love is. It just happens to be more evident in GLOs as visable as we are. However, there is never an excuse to disrespect people. There is no harm in keeping one's mouth closed sometimes and not reacting to everything. As mature Greeks we can lead by example and correct with tack and love.

Well, I am a firm believer in respecting those that came before you-they will usually have some wisdom or advice to impart. To publicly disrespect anyone in your org. (especially around outsiders) is not cute or a good display of brother and sisterhood. However, respect does not mean taking every thing they say as gospel truth. Like it has been said, you don't air your dirty laundry in public.
