The Quest by George T. Kilavos

February 22, 1988

My life in Dear Old Theta Chi, began as just a QUEST.
At first to enter college, just like all the rest.

My life was somewhat more complex, with nothing preordained,
For I knew not of Theta Chi, and what those men sustained.

Then call it chance or destiny, just like the letter Chi,
Our swords of life began to cross, without the ruby eye.

The QUEST had changed direction, as I sought other ends,
My mission now was more complex, as I found closer friends.

These Men of Theta Chi I learned, were very closely bound,
They had a common purpose, that no where could be found.

And then the QUEST seemed near an end, when I received a bid,
To join this close-knit Brotherhood, which I gladly did.

The QUEST continued through a phase, when I became a pledge,
The training and the guidance, had brought me an edge.

The edge was end of pledging, the QUEST was now in sight,
I loved what I experienced, I was now a neophyte.

And then there came a journey, staged with three degrees,
That pledged me to ideals, sworn upon my knees.

And when the final oath was taken, I stood there proud and tall,
Knowing that the Brothers circle, would never let me fall.

I had become a Brother, and the QUEST had surely ended,
Now closely tied to all the men, by whom I was befriended.

But after all was said and done, the QUEST had just begun,
For I had learned through Theta Chi, the QUEST was never done.

To be a Theta Chi for Life, is a never ending QUEST,
And like the Men since '56, it is a life-time test.

I'll live the oaths I took back then, until the day I die,
The QUEST must never end my Brothers, in the living Theta Chi.

No, that was written by Past National President George T. Kilavos.
He wrote a lot of poems about Theta Chi that remained in his personal files.
I was close to George. It totally devastated me when he died.

That is honestly one of the most heart felt things I've ever heard. I knew that George T. Kilavos was a spectacular man with alot of wisdom to share about brotherhood. My father, whom is also a Theta Chi, had the chance to meet him a few times when he was still in college and then shortly after while George was still president. This is something I must definently share with my brothers; I'm sure they haven't heard this yet. Thanks for the post.
