MICHAEL DEN TANDT AND ESTANISLAO OZIEWICZ

From Wednesday's Globe and Mail

OTTAWA and TORONTO — Canadian church groups and key players in the U.S.-led coalition in Afghanistan demanded yesterday that the Afghan government prevent the execution of a man arrested for converting to Christianity, but there were only cautious expressions of concern from Ottawa.

Didn't we go in there to remove the Taliban to insure this kind of stuff wouldn't happen anymore?

Dude, I could have sworn so.

I hear that the Afghan gov may be releasing the man charged within a week. I mean come on, do you really think Bush would let this one slide?

No kidding, Muslims there want to kill a Christian?

No way.

For real?

No, no really they're peaceful.

Is that why Islam is so prevalent over there? I know that being Christian or Jewish was highly looked down upon but I didn't know that they were beat and executed, just for the fact that they were not muslim.

Some say the religion was spread through the sword. But a lot of religions have that violence in their past (Crusades). Whether or not the religion is peaceful, doesn't change the fact that its current implementation in Arab lands is violent.

I thought the Crusades was just a Christian/Muslim war.

Screw it, make a glass table top of the whole area!!!!!!!!

Interestingly enough, his parents turned him in. I'm sure they feared for their own lives if they were found out to be "harboring" a gasp! Christian.

Yeah, but these are members of a peaceful, loving "religion".

I've told my pledge sister's story here : Sarai's Story. It's the last post on the first page.

What I didn't mention was that once, she was in a mall, saw that there was a Christian Book Store opening, and tried to go in. There were guards at the door who pointed to a sign that said something to the effect that Muslims were NOT permitted past that point (there was a line painted about 3 feet from the doorway), and turned her away. It was about a month prior to her "honor killing".

Islam is a peaceful, loving religion that I happen to be a member of. But hey, so is Christianity, Judiasm, Hinduism..etc etc etc

AnchorAlum 03-26-2006 01:46 PM

I think that most of us believe that our religion is peace loving regardless of whether or not it's Islam, Christianity, etc.

But realistically speaking, we must admit that there are religious leaders who are 100% human and who are in a position to impose a warped viewpoint which then negatively paints our belief system in a bad light.

I hope for this man's sake that he is spirited out of Afghanistan while he's free, for if not, he is a marked man on borrowed time.

Most of us would like to think so, but if you look at the history of the world, a huge percentage of the wars and other terrible events were motivated by religion.

It doesn't seem right, does it?

Tom Earp 03-26-2006 08:49 PM

Funny isnt it, Not HaHa Funny as In Odd.

All are Peace Loving but it is not truely Religion but Who is in Power no matter how You call it!:(

Well DeltAlum I am not so sure You are correct, but as good a reason as any! Right?;)
