Tolerance Test for Immigrants

Good idea? Bad idea? In general, I don't think immigrants have to agree with it, but I think they should accept that certain things happen in certain cultures. Immigrants should also accept that their kids aren't going to keep 100% of the old culture and may adapt things from the new country. Immigrants can be ignorant and have stereotypes of the "new" country just as it is the other way around (I know a girl who has been in Canada since she was 11 and STILL thinks that (white) Canadian girls are "loose" because a "good Chinese girl" never lives with a guy before marriage.

What would be the point in living somewhere where you wouldn't truly be happy, that would be bad for that society. There should be a personality test of some sort to determine which state/country you'd be most suited to live in then everyone would feel like the right people were in charge and we'd be less likely to go to war and more likely to federate.

With a price tage of $420.00 for the test prep package, perhaps the Dutch are trying to raise money for something. It sounds like they trying they are giving a false sense of what the country is really like. There are conservatives and liberals living side by side in every country.

For $420, that test better include some hashish. :p

Sounds like they are afraid of losing their own culture and want to bring down their "brainwashing" techniques to cleanse away what one brings from another culture rather than having a coalesce and diversity of understanding.

It's called epistemology and acculturation.

Either way, there is only one way it has always worked to make everyone be one culture... Well, may be a few ways. The first ways are war, oppression and genocide and those in tow do pretty good job of making one complete culture... Depends on what one is fighting--a religious culture, which is the history of the world or a vague spiritual culture where nothing is written down... It is very hard to erase a religious culture. It is rather easy to kill off parents and tell the kids what to believe in spiritually, if you allow the kids to live. Most governments don't last that long if they follow such a creed, it would be a crime against humanity and we now have the Hague and other "elements" to make that not occur, depending on what continent we are discussing. It won't ever occur in Europe, again... But it occurs all the time in Africa...

The second way makes people feel better about government-sanctioned "brainwashing" and that is everyone gets busy with everyone else... Then it doesn't matter what one's original culture was, it's what they feel best suits them--what they feel connected to... That "one size fits all" mentality...

Hmmm, well for the US in particular, there seems to be more instances of intolerance from existing citizens than from immigrants, so I don't see how this test would be very helpful.

I think they're more afraid of new people thinking that the culture of their adopted homeland is "weird" or "not right" than the country is thinking that they're losing their culture. Most 20-something women in North America aren't pure, but most aren't s.luts either. However, just by sleeping with ONE GUY (or even dating), a girl can be considered "lose" in many cultures. Some immigrants will tell their kids that North Americans (guys and girls) are "dirty" or 'bad' because we think about sex so much.

In some instances, our culture is out there. The morality and suffering the consequences of our immorality have become a whole subculture into itself, with its own identity, dictates and livelihood.

The question is why would some immigrants think that way about our culture? What would make them say such a thing? And what I have garnered is that many who do state such things are coming from a completely different world and ideology that hey--they actually do suffer the consequences of their actions--mainly because of poverty and oppression in their country of origin compared to our freer society...

A teenage girl who becomes pregnant in a poor country with a strict government controlled morality code is a whole lot different than a teenage girl in our society... In our society, at least we purport having more options available to us than in a dictatorial/fascist society... Albeit changing before us...

Am I wrong or is this all stemming from that Dutch film director that was murdered by an immigrant who found his film offensive?
