Nelia Rules
I was wonderin from some of the older and newer members of our organizations how you all felt on Pari. What I mean is, if a brother/soror had on a shirt, hat, jacket, book bag, AND a keychain, what would u think?
I know in this day and time I believe that more than one piece of Nelia is overboard. But times have changed, so how do some of you feel? |
FOR ME, one wearable piece and one utility piece is more than enough....
Jacket and umbrella Shirt and bag Shirt and keychain Hat and umbrella Etc.... I think you can get away with a shirt and jacket if you are going to a Greek event. But in those cases, tuck in the lanyard and wear a different hat or bag. ETA: I am three in Alpha and seven in APO, so I guess I am more of a veteran now, lol |

Personally, as I've gotten older I have toned it down. I'll just wear a t-shirt and my car keys are on a SGR key chain. And, I have a couple of letter tote bags that I use - one for sorority meetings and one for work. So, I guess to answer your question - I have no problem with 'nalia being too little or too much. |
I feel you. There was this girl who did the exact thing u said, but on top of that, she had on the SHOES!!!! THE SHOES!?!?!?!?LOLOLOL
I was just wondering, cause some people that are not exactly old heads do the same thing though!:D |

I'm going on 7 years and I don't wear much 'nalia these days. I usually just have my umbrella and and maybe a t-shirt at informal chapter or committee meetings. |
Wow. The only time I've seen somone wear two or more pieces of pari is if they were *whispering* paper. Of course that's what we were taught undergrad. A key chain you can get away with, an umbrella too. Never a shirt & jacket, shirt & shoes, Depending on how big the lettering is, even a shirt & bag can be an issue. Alumni Bruhs don't fall under this rule. They were as many pieces as can fit on them...lol!

I wear one piece of 'nalia at a time.
|
I either wear a piece daily be it keychain, necklace or whatever or i have the colors on... now since i have my tattoo i always have letters on.

See me and marquise1911 was brought in the same way. Around my parts, if you are wearing more than one piece of nelia, and you are a NUPE, you will be questioned on the spot! I don't know if other orgs have similiar rules, but in the SE Province that's how it goes. I've been other places where it's perfectly fine to O.D. on the nelia.

Too much of one thing can look like a room with Burberry wall paper:eek:

When I was going over my Polemarch warned us about wearing nelia period. He said "do not wear nelia every day...we are not Ques (no disrespect meant)"
On our campus Fridays was nelia day and when we did wear it, it was just 1 piece. in the SE, wearing too much nelia will get you jumped. |
These 'nalia rules are relatively recent, and at least in my org are not official. Back in the day, there were no such rules and folx 'nalia'd down. Now you seem pressed if you do that. I say if it is a private function like a chapter retreat, etc, or you are a neo--do your thing. Otherwise, folx will grow out it in their own time. But to jump someone, or assume they are "paper"--

NATTY NUPE!!! EPSILON OMEGA IS IN THE BUILDING!!!
But he wasn't teeling a lie. I've seen it happen, when someone has on more than one piece. You get that  look all night at any function. Most brothers feel that since you have on so much pari, you feel like giving some away. Ya'll know what happens next! |
