Rent for Square Footage?!?!?!
 

I'm extremely frustrated by the amount of money I pay for rent. So, where do YOU live (and how where it is in proximity to a larger city...unless it IS in a larger city), how many square feet do you have and how much do you pay.

My rent makes me want to shoot the entire housing department at this school! LOL!!

So, this is a dorm.

I pay $940/month for 350 square feet.

This does not include any "board." I pay all utilities except heat, water and sewage (meaning, power, internet, tv, phone, etc.) I also pay for laundry. And, of course, I pay for all meals and such.

AH - thanks for letting me vent a bit.

ETA: WOOPS! I didn't even follow my own directions. I live about 20 minutes northwest (across the Hudson) of NYC in Rockland County.

We pay $550 for the mortgage on our 1000+ sq. ft. of house.

The highest I have ever paid was when I lived in a luxury apartment in Nashville. I paid $645 for 1000 sq.ft.

Outside of Nashville, one can expect anywhere from $400 and up. Most end up being in the $500s.

Where are you that your school charges that much? NYC?

Yeah, I was just going to ask the same thing. At both schools I've been to, they charge by the semester and a dorm room is about $2,000 per semester. I can't believe you're paying almost $1,000 a month!

My rent is $1,110 per month for about 1,000 square feet. Not too bad of a deal. I'm in Orange County between Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm.

yeesh...We pay 720$ a month, for 1000 sq ft (needless to say, the neighborhood isnt that great!) but the utilities are included, and when you use as much as we do (we're an electronics family;)) that's not bad, especially in the middle of Dallas!

WOW, checking the website... $10,470. includes internet access/AC-heat, cable, local telephone service, water, AND we get complimentary toile paper...

however, i dont know how much square footage my room is. but its typically a double (and sometimes a triple) in my building, so technically im getting 2-3 times my money's worth.

then again, i'm an RA so i guess it adds up to $0/aquare foot?

trust me, im enjoying it while it lasts...

Is the $10,470 per quarter, semester, academic year or calendar year? YIKES!

I live in Boston - hence, my apartment, while nice, is overpriced.

I pay $706 for a 688 sq. ft. 1 bedroom in a yuppie apartment complex in suburbian Pittsburgh (about $1.026 per sq. ft). Gated access, gas fireplace, cathedral ceilings, in-suite washer and dryer, all new appliances, pool, clubhouse with gym facilities and brunch every Sunday, 24 hour maintenance, etc. and also includes sewage/water (which I think nearly all apartments include.)

Last year I was in a 2 bedroom 2 bath in the same complex where we paid a total of $828 for 1002 sq. ft. (about $0.83 per sq ft)

Location, location, location is what it's all about. There are shitholes in the yuppie areas of the city (i.e. within city limits) that cost tons more than my nice place in the 'burbs.

I live in a small 3 bedroom home, in a gated community in Cape Canaveral, FL. We are 1,000 ft. from the Ocean, have 2 community (1 heated) swimming pools, raquetball, tennis courts, and a beautiful "jungle book" environment with wild peacocks and a lot of wild life.

We pay $850.00 a month. Granted, our landloard hasn't raised the rent on us in 5 years. Many of the townhomes are now going for $1400 a month, but we live in one of the few non-attatched houses.

I live in Boston, have 605 sq feet and a balcony and pay way too much money. But I love my condo.

My apartment (one bedroom) is about 750 sq feet and I pay $645 a month. I live in Knoxville, TN.

I live in Columbia, MO and I pay $760 for 1400 sq. feet. It's a huge apartment...and I live alone, a little unnecessary but I like it...and my utilities and cable/internet are included.
