Debit Cards and ATMs
I just saw on the news this evening where they are advising people with debit cards that criminals have gotten access to people's pin numbers. It amazes me how the criminal mind works and how it has gotten access to this information they say that it may have come in through possible retail stores! Be aware! Banks are working overtime to secure measures for debit card users! One woman interviewed said that the thieves had made out with at least $800.00 of her money from her bank account! They say this puts the burden on the banks to guarantee the money for those who have accounts -thus they are working furiously on this matter. This does not affect credit card users however.

OMG
Oh my gosh!!! Technology is on the rise and so are the criminal minds. They have to keep up with the times. People take every measure possible to try to be safe concerning these matters, yet some things you just can't avoid. If they every get my PIN, they will be looking real sad when they try to use it. I guess in this type of situation, it pays to act like the stereotypical people of the older generations. Most of the ones I know don't keep money in the bank. They don't feel it's secure. They feel they can keep their own money. They don't want to use debit cards or the online bill paying/purchasing for that matter. Hopefully they'll crack down on the issue real soon. Poor employees of banks and poor victims.

I just finished teaching a unit on consumer education, and I read in some of the materials that crooks have now found a way to place cameras on ATM machines and that's how they're getting your card numbers and stealing peoples' identities. The article I read said to be careful when you use an ATM and check for anything out of the ordinary, like buttons with the braille missing when all the other buttons have it. I believe I found it in a recent issue of Reader's Digest, if you want to read the rest of it.
