Fraternity Spring Recruitment Flopped
Three of the 12 fraternities at UConn have no pledges after this spring recruitment. The top three chapters have 17, 12, and 10 respectively. Overall only about 70 men went Greek this Spring. We had about 120 men go greek in the fall. As an IFC exec board, we are looking to change the role that IFC plays in the system.
Right now the IFC provides the 12 fraternities at UConn with... -A start and end date for recruitment -Roundtables for recruitment chairs to discuss best practices -Exec walks into recruitment events to offer suggestions for improvement -Approving RUSH calendars Should we move to formal recruitment or should we stay informal? Clearly in a school of 15,000 undergrads on campus we can do much better. Should we use ICS recruiter to register guys, or is that only for sororities? Should we do PR for the chapters, all they do now is wear t-shirts and post rush calendars... Advice is welcome!! |
Sounds like PR is your problem. Why don't the men organize a fraternity-wide (or greek-wide and include the ladies) philanthropy event that could act as both a PR, service and recruiting event. I'm sure all of your nationals would be pleased and the university might even co-sponsor/support $$ it as well. You can't lose. My campus has a similar # of students and only about 70 women came out for recruitment. Again, the non-greeks are not seeing the benefits of affiliation and therefore are not affiliating. This is definitely an issue in the northeast were being in a GLO is not pre-destined before your feet hit college soil.
Good luck. Denise |
I think the big thing is with PR...people can't rush what they don't know
