2 students arrested in Alabama church fires

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/03/08/ala...cnn_topstories

Both were 19-year-old students at Birmingham-Southern College. One other suspect, a 20-year-old from UAB, is also being sought. Don't know if either are in GLOs.

:(

It's probably George Wallace.

OK, Rudey, I laughed.
(Although the topic certainly isn't funny)

Above is a press release about a play one of the suspects starred in last fall. How did he get caught up in this?

All of the burned churches were Baptist and the two suspects went (go) to a Methodist college according to a story I read on AOL.

Five of the churches had predominately black congregations and five were white.

Yes, BSC is affiliated with the United Methodist Church.

I really hope they are prosecuted to the fullest of the law!

This is not a very funny situation, but a violation of Peoples rights to worship and Arson is a Felony.

These were not HillBillys, but College Students who should have known better, adn I really Hope they were not part of a GLO!

Do the baptists have beef with the methodist's? I don't know too much about the newer branches of Christianity.

Do you live on your computer? 13,300 + posts?

All "newer branches of Christianity" seem to "have beef" with the others. It's a terrible situation.

This story is horrible. A Christian is a Christian is a Christian.

I know that I brought up the denominations above, and admit that I wonder if the religious affilliation(s) have anything to do with the arsons, but at this point its premature to assume that religious differences are the reason for the crimes.

That's for the authorities to sort out.

We (or at least I) don't know yet. I just found it interesting and possible. I'm not willing yet to make it the motive.

Um, no.

I don't think religion was a major factor, either. Just because two of the boys go to a UMC-affiliated school doesn't mean they are Methodist themselves.

preciousjeni 03-09-2006 12:42 PM

DA - I understood what you were saying. I went to a Christian private school as a child and it was composed of people from many varied denominations...but I have NEVER seen such nasty people! And, I'm including the parents...

Too many of the kids were completely out of hand and rebellious. Stories like the one in this thread are not all that surprising to me given the behavior of so many kids in Christian schools. :( You'd hope that young people who hail from Christian institutions would be sensible and Christ-like. But, it's not always the case.

irishpipes, what did you mean by "Um, no"?
