This we defend!

Why do some members of GLOs get so stressed when a newer GLO has the same or similar colors, calls, etc?

Sorors and sisterfriends,
I know there was this social org at my campus that was formed by an expelled Sigma (I won't even go into why he was expelled, but let's just say it's too digusting for public consumption). Anyway, this org's hand sign was the same as Sigma, their call was similar to Sigma, and true to form, they a male and female branch of the org. But the comical part was that the females had the nerve to call themselves the "little sisters" of DST-the name of the group was Delta Psi Chi. I think they were only local, but it was truly comical how hard they perpetrated the brother-sister "bond".
I would think people get stressed merely it seems as if for whatever reason, these people did not "measure up" so to speak in order to join an established org , so they are just creating their own versions of whatever they wanted to join, but"improving" upon it.

Greetings, Sisters in Greekdom!

I beleive there are two reasons why we 'stress':

1) There can be confusion regarding the identity of a group with similar public persona. If this group is engaged in questionable activities, there may be confusion in the mind of the general public that could damage the rep of an established org. It is one thing to have a bad rap because some of your sorors/frats poor judgement but it is quite another thing when someone who isn't even part of your org tarnishes your rep mistakenly (or not).

2) These groups imitate the show and not the substance. This imitation is not flattery and mocks the very principles upon which the orgs were founded.

From an oldhead...

Even though I agree with Mccoyred I still don't see any reason to get too upset about it. I just feel that these organizations will not last very long. We have been in existence for quite some time. In just a few years Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity will be 100 years old. IMAGINE THAT!!

We get stressed because, like mccoyred said, they imitate the imagery and not the substance or the essence of the Divine Nine. I haven't heard of any of the other groups donate/award scholarship monies, do community service to the extent that the Divine Nine does or have a voice in our government with endurance. Now if they have, well kudos, but right now its unknown to me!
