Dead Heat?
All votes have been cast and the "big day" is over. Not exactly. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif If you've been following news reports you know that the 2000 Presidential Race is tight to say the least. Who do you think will come away victorious? What do you think of the electoral college and it's effect on the voting system?

I am hoping and "PRAYING" that Al Gore will come away victorious. But all votes ARE IN, well except absentee in Florida. so we need to PRAY that everything goes his way. That is if you are a Gore supporter (of course I AM).
Anyway, as much as I hate electoral college votes, we can't do away with it, I would not even suggest changing it - it is in the constitution! I agree that a candidate with more popular votes should win, for that is a true democracy, but and there are a bunch of buts it would make it harder in many ways to deal with counting the voters and fraud. There was a special on CNN about this, maybe you can log onto the site to see the pros and cons. Sisterly LadyAKA |
As of 10:50 a.m. (Central Time) I still don't have a clue who will win. There are so many different reports out there that you don't know who or what to believe.
The Electoral College is an outdated concept and should be destroyed. |
I think the electoral college is crappy and outdated also. It serves absolutely no purpose.

This is a very suspensful election, and kind of entertaining. However, wouldn't you just hate to be either candidate? It comes down to FL. Gore, so far from what I've heard, has the popular vote. If Bush wins the state (electoral college), wouldn't it suck for him to KNOW that he's not backed by the majority of CITIZENS, that THEY wanted GORE? And wouldn't it suck ANYWAY for either of them knowing that close to HALF of the country DOESN'T want them in office? It's gotta be even more hard on the candidates knowing that half of the american population pretty much despises you. For their sanity, I wish it had been a landslide for either one.

I think that one of the reasons Gore did not get more votes is because of the "guilt by association" syndrome. Because of the mistakes of President Clinton, Vice-President Gore was passed over by many voters.
My thing is, you can't punish a child for the mistakes of her/his parent for example, and neither should Gore be punished for being an associate of President Clinton. It's JMO, but obviously a lot of people feel differently. My mind was not changed... ------------------ Sweet Deliverance's PHI-losophy: "What you do or do not do today determines what you can or cannot do tomorrow." |
Waving at yall from Florida, feeling anxious, bitting my nails and my son's nails. I'm just praying and hoping that all of you who support Al Gore are praying for his victory. Now you know it's true Your Vote Counts.

I am just sitting thinking about all the people in FL who couldn't vote but tried to and I am not happy.....
neither am I happy about all the fools who didn't bother to vote at all! my stomach is turning...this is a close one! ------------------ The Epitome of Beauty, Style, and Grace, Always Exemplifying Good Taste, A Zeta Woman, A Finer Woman, That's Me! |
Sorors,
I am just letting my family know that I will be moving to Canada if Bush wins because I do not think I can re-live the Regan/Bush years all over again. When though we knew the Nancy ran the house but I am not going into my theory as of yet. |
Moving to Canada?!? LOL!! Please stay. I hope it won't be like that.
|
Japera1920...move to Montreal, Canada. That way, I can visit you when I go there every month for business :-).
Canada for America's Movement, Phase II, here we come! LOL http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Seriously though, very interesting what's going on in Palm County, FL, do you think? ------------------ Finer Womanhood: the "Cat's Meow" Since 1920 |
I also think Gore took a blow for his running mate, and no I am in no way against Jews, but people of this land cannot fathom a Jewish person being so close to running our Nation. Too bad we still think in these old ways. I too wish it would have been a landslide, like Hillary took in NY -YIPPEE, I got something to be glad about. And lastly, I will say it again be prayerful the Lord knows what is best for us...if Bush is elected there is a reason, we can't see it and I really don't care to see it, but there is a reason, maybe it will be us together ...maybe!
Just pray, that the lord cast the winning vote!! |
Oh and I am thinking about Canada too :-)
As for Florida, there are rats down there, political rats and if they (the state) is found to have committed illegal activity, which a 5 year old child can clearly detect, then, I just found out that the likely hood of a re-vote is slim to nil!! The deciding factor is Congress, and guess what Congress is majority republican, so either way we are doomed!! BUT BE PRAYERFUL!! |

Hasn't a BUNCH of people predicted that the end of the world was to come in the year 2000. . . well. . .looks like they were right with THIS race!
Also, who was it that said that presidents elected in a year ending with a 0 will die in office? All but 1 or 2 have. So really we should have been looking at the VP candidates rather than the presidential candidates themselves. |
