I can look past TCM and The Amityville Horror, but The Fog, The Hills have Eyes, When A Stranger Calls, and now THIS!



Jonathan Liebesman, director of the upcoming "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" prequel, is in negotiations to direct the remake of horror classic "Friday the 13th" for New Line Cinema.

"Friday" made Jason, the unstoppable hockey mask-wearing killer, a 1980s horror icon, though the serial killer made only a brief appearance in the final frames of the first movie. Jason didn't even don the famous mask until the third movie.

Jason will wear the mask for the remake, written by Mark Wheaton, which will incorporate components of the franchise's films. The setting will be that of the first movie, Crystal Lake.

Liebesman is wrapping production on the untitled "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" prequel, which, like the "Friday" remake, is produced by Platinum Dunes for New Line.

A Friday the 13th does fall in October this year, and there was speculation that the movie would be made quickly to capitalize on that. But Platinum Dunes and New Line already have scheduled the "Texas Chainsaw" prequel for release that month, on October 6. "Friday" will be a 2007 release.

The good thing is that I never have to see a movie again for the rest of my life, because apparently I've seen them all.

My husband and I were talking about this earlier in the week when an ad for "The Hills Have Eyes" remake came on TV. Has Hollywood officially run out of original ideas or are industry people just too lazy to look for new material? :confused:

Okay, I want to see the Hills have Eyes, just because the original scared me so bad, and the previews look DAMN scary. Same with When A Stranger Calls...but...Friday the 13th?


1. Aren't they still making these movies?
2. This is a CLASSIC. Like, you start at the beginning, and work your way up kind of classic. A guaranteed to scare, even though it's not really that scary classic. A "my sister made me watch this when I was 4" classic. You don't (DO NOT) mess with the CLASSICS.

I can see maybe a prequel, or a retelling from another character's point of view, but a plain old remake? I say no.

Well, the've always messed with the classics, it's like brand image. People know it so they will see it.

Yeah they have, and pretty much have admited that, at least a few execs have, that the best movies are being made in the provences. I.e. Independant films.

They pull stuff like this from 20 years ago and then wonder why ticket sales are down. Actually they don't care about ticket sales, since they are offset by DVDs.

I just got a great idea for distribution though.

I'm going to film the 2006 version of Plan 9 From Outer Space in my bathtub.

I spoke too soon, I just found out that they are remaking "Black Christmas".

I went to see "The Hills Have Eyes" yesterday. I had never seen the original so I have nothing to compare it to. My boyfriend had seen the original and it was the original that got him hooked on horror movies.

I didn't think it was terrible (although a little too gory for my tastes. I prefer more suspense), he said it was okay, but it was nothing like the original he remembered.

I do agree that Hollywood is really sucking lately. I used to love going to the movies, but they are really running out of ideas.
