NAACP and Vote 2000

Peace & Blessings

My Chapter Basileus and I attended a video conference hosted by Kweisi Mfume, NAACP President and Julian Bond, Chairman of NAACP.
The whole idea of the conference was HIGHLY ENCOURAGING African-Americans to vote on November 7. One of the main questions that was voiced from around the country was will the NAACP continue this Voting campaign after this years election?

So, my question of the day is:
Do you feel that the NAACP still has a strong influence on the Black Community?

Interesting question. I am not active in the NAACP. I have traditionally been a big supporter of "get out the vote" drives, but now I'm not so sure. Our people were murdered and suffered near impossible odds in order to try and vote. For those of us who chose not to exercise the privilege to vote, I don't know how concerted an effort we should make to "pressure" them to vote. They most likely haven't a clue on the bonds and issues in the local and state arena, so might folks do more harm than good by voting for issues of which they have not analyzed?

Re: NAACP: I really like Kweisi Mfume. No organization outlives its usefulness unless they don't anticipate change and redefine the platform and objectives accordingly. Whether the NAACP can or is willing to do that will be the test of their continued effectiveness.
