Clifton Britt
I hope that I do not offend anyone by this post. I am posting this to see how members of Omega Psi Phi feel about Clifton Britt, better known as Lexington Steele. With him being a member of Omega Psi Phi, how does him being a porn star reflect on the organization as a whole? I've also seen it on certain Omega chapter websites where he is listed as a prominent member. Does this place a bad image on the organization at all? I asked an Omega about it in person, and he said, "Maybe he's listed as a prominent member due to the money he puts in the organization." Whether that is true or not, I do not know.
Also, would any other GLO list anyone in that line of work as a prominent/honorary member? Just trying to gain an understanding on how one wants to reflect their organization towards the public. |
Lexington
The listings on wikipedia are not listings made by the national organization. Those listings are made by the general public whom may be both members and nonmembers.
For example, anyone including me and you can add or remove Lexington Steele's (Kappa Chapter 1990) name from wikipedia. So I DO NOT think that the national organization would list Lexington Steele as a prominent or famous member. That was probably put there by either Lexington Steele (Clifton T. Britt) himself or someone who thinks his name should be there. But, if I was making a prominent Omega's webpage I would NOT list Lexington Steele(Clifton T. Britt). |
I read a very interesting article about Lexington Steele a few months ago. Actually, someone emailed it to me and wanted me to comment, but I really didn't know what to say.
Pornography is a touchy subject, of course. Many argue that it is abusive, degrading, and detrimental to healthy relationships. But of course, we all know people who at least view it, if not purchase it. While I might not list an adult actor as a prominent member of my organization on a website, based on what I read of Lexington Steele, his work ethic, and his business acumen, I would not be ashamed to call him a brother (if he was in my org). But that's a slippery slope, though. Of course you have to consider the organization when creating websites and listing famous or prominent members. But who decides who is worthy of being mentioned? (In lieu of a specific organizational protocol.) E. Lynn Harris, Eric Jerome Dickey, Carl Weber, and Gary Hardwick are all Alphas but rarely get mentions on chapter websites.... but on some websites, two guys from Shai are still listed as "famous" brothers. I don't get it. |
I do not believe that he is listed on any National or District Website. I have not also seen him listed on any chapter websites. I'm not comfortable with it, but I have no problem. He doesn't represent the frat in his movies and with the exception of his brand (which is mostly obscured) most people would not know.
I know some of his chapter bruhs and by all accounts, he is a good brother. |

Now that I try to google search it, I do not see it listed on a chapter website either. Therefore, I'm not sure what site I saw that on, but I'll still continue searching. If I find it, I'll post the link. I would still like comments as far as everyone's view on him being an adult star and a member of OPP. |

It wasn't that one. Page had a purple background. I'll see if the Omega that looked at it with me remembers. Was about a month ago. Thanks though. |

Why are they not considered? |

@MightyQuinn....you know, I didn't even mean for it to be funny, but I have that problem in general. Stuff I say (even in real life) has this tone to it that is funny. :) So it's okay to laugh, no doubt. |

A couple of years ago I googled Harris' name to find his name and year of crossing (in the 70s--I think he's a #11 or something--I don't think he was a charter member) listed on his own chapter's website. It really sucks when people are unfairly selective in who are considered "famous or notable members." |

From my own experiences, every Bruh I know is either 1) damn proud of Steele and barks everytime someone mentions him (LOL)or 2) just nonchalantly says they can't knock his hustle. I don't have an issue with pornography or Steele, but I think it would be a completely different scenario if Steele was a she, in a sorority, and publicized her membership in the same manner. It would probably also be a different thing if the popular image/stereotype of Omega as "Que Dawgs" didn't already fit in with Steele's image. :) |

First of all, he is exemplifying 3.5 of the 4 Cardinal Principles to the max. Secondly, he learned well at the foot (dong?) of the master coochie slayer. Thirdly, I can't think of too many better ways to be a millionaire. He is professional, articulate, business savvy, and erudite. A true Omega Man. Of course the scenario would be different, if the situation referred to a woman with a Delta Crest on her backside. Lastly, Bro. Steele does not PUBLICIZE his membership as part of his business or any of his bios related to his business. As the Bruhs say, "we supply beef" |
