Who runs the yard?
I'm having trouble with a buddy of mine in a rival organization. He feels his org runs the yard where as i know we run the yard. lol. But the serious question i ask is how can one organization run "the yard" with so many different councils? Is it even possible?? Do those other councils even matter when referring to " who runs the yard". I've only heard that as a NPHC discussion. do other orgs outside of that council even discuss who runs the yard?

I read threads that discuss tiers and i'm like what on earth is that about? Thank you it makes sense to me now.

Frat, discussions like this will eventually become inconsequential as your time as a member of IOTA grows (at least I hope so). The only things that should matter are:
▪ Are we upholding the values and tenets of IOTA? ▪ Are the men of IOTA on our campus/in our community making an positive impact/difference on our campus/in our community? ▪ Do the men of IOTA do the best we can to bring about a positive impact? ▪ Do the men of IOTA do enough to make an impact? ▪ Are WE proud of what we do? ▪ Would other brothers be proud of what we do? I think if you keep these questions at the forefront of your thoughts in discussions about "who runs the yard", your best answer will not be the one you say, but will be the one(s) you simply point to. Let you actions speak louder than your words. Furthermore, if this person is truly a buddy/friend of yours....do not let discussions of this sort become trouble within your relationship. It's not worth losing a true friend (if this person is one) over. Lastly, my above comments are the same regardless of the different councils involved. Other organizations on your campus may have more members, throw more events, and be the topic of conversations more than your chapter.....but does that define your chapter/our organization? Look inside yourself and look at what you've learned about IOTA and you'll find the answer. |

I'll never turn down great advice and wisdom because that only makes a person stronger, but on this one i just wanted to know not necessarily who, but how does one truly determine who runs the yard. |
i cosign 122% with comments posted by Suntzu 1963(you are ALWAYS THE MAN!)
but i would like to say that when i crossed at UF in the fall of 2000, we were about 20 deep on the yard, which is not a bad size, particularly for Sigma Gamma Rho. By the time I graduated, there were about 8 of us...but we were Chapter of the Year, held the Award for most Oustanding Community Service, and had a host of other decorations to our credit for the work we did... so in my eyes, you know who ran the yard...never about numbers, always about quality and progression and heart. that's what is superior on the yard to me. |

No one person/group truly determines who runs the yard (even though this may not be true at all schools - but if someone cares that much....http://www.my-smileys.de/smileys2/annienein.gif). There is no "yard lord" or no "yard council". So again, let your actions be the determining factor. Anyways, on with the conversation I guess....http://www.my-smileys.de/smileys2/1icon_nixweissA.gif |

I agree with your comments as well. My chapter after I graduated (I was a 1st semester 4th year when I crossed and on the charter line, so things began to grow for us after I left) let their efforts, the awards they won, and their well-wishers speak for them in these types of discussions.... |
