New York Business Trip
Ok all you NYC and familiar with the area GC'ers-- I have a business trip next month to the Northeast. I am flying into the White Plains Airport on a Sunday night. My flight arrives at 836pm--- I will be taking the hotel shuttle to the hotel.... and won't have a car. But I don't want to be stuck in the hotel all evening by myself.
SO--- can I take the train into the city-- what do I do by myself on a Sunday night-- how late can I get a train back to White Plains? Is there anything to do in White Plains? I looked online and it looks like a cute little town that will be closed by 5pm! I will need to up and out of the hotel by 6am the next morning, as I am riding with one of the VPs to Mass to train some of the people in our office there, the next day to CT, and back to NY to training the office there and home on Thursday. Sunday night will be the only couple of hours I will have. Thanks alot for your help!!!! w. |

The Metro-North goes from White Plains to Grand Central Station in 35 minutes.
By the time you check into the hotel, it will probably be around 10 PM. There are trains that run that late, but it doesn't really seem like you have the time to do anything especially if you have to be up by 6 AM. Here is the Metro-North website. Put in White Plains, the date of your trip, and the time to see what trains are available. You can also get a reverse schedule. |
You'll probably be tired after your flight. You could take Metro-North into NYC, but that might not be the best idea, especially since you have to be up early on Monday. There are some decent restaurants in downtown White Plains, but there's not much else to do there on a Sunday evening. So you might be best off catching up on your sleep.

Yeah, on a Sunday the train will only come once an hour, so by the time you get it and get into the city, you'll have to turn around and come back (last train is around 1am). White Plains actually has a lot of bars and stuff to do on the weekends. It's not a "little" suburban town - population is about 56K. However, Sunday will probably be a little slow. There is a big, new movie theatre right downtown (what hotel are you staying at?). Maybe take in a movie you've been meaning to see and then hit the hay. |
OMG, Wendy!
What is a Semi-Country Girl going there for? They are wolves looking for Little Red Riding hood!:D Come Home Dorthy, come Home safe and sound!:) |
