Listing names of deceased sisters on OH

Sisters-
I was on our official site recently, and did a search on sisters who had graduated from my chapter three years before and after my initiation date. I love our search feature, the way it enables us to search by chapter, initiation date, city, zip code, maiden name, married name, etc. Anyway, as I was reading and refamiliarizing myself with names, I noticed that the name of one of my closest pledge sisters, who died in 1980, was still listed, along with her address and telephone number at that time. Also, there were a couple of sisters who only had their name and initation date, no other personal info listed, and I wondered if something had happened to them. My birth sister, and also my ADPi sister, said that she "heard" that two girls from her pledge class had also died. Obviously, it would be something we would like to know about, even if it wasn't recently. My question-is there a way that sisters who are deceased can be included in the list in a way that we will know they have died? I realize that Headquarters probably has their hands full with just keeping addresses current, but I really feel that, as sisters spread all over the globe, our offical magazine and website are the answer to helping those of us who don't keep in touch, but would very much like to know if a sister we were close to in college had passed on. Thoughts?

I just learned that the website and EO's official database are not one and the same. The real db is better updated and can be queried to provide all alumnae, all living alumnae, certain years, certain chapters - whatever.

As for information on deceased sisters, I think some sort of Memorial page on PO could be tastefully developed, in the manner of the Memorial Ceremony. (I'm most touched by the feeling of sisterhood at that part of Convention. Perhaps b/c I too lost a pledge sister?)

BBelle, I completely and totally agree with you! If EO has the information, I think it should be given. As I've posted before, one of my favorite sisters in my chapter was killed by her husband, and another died days after receiving her M.D. What upsets me is when I talk to another sister, and she didn't know about either of their deaths. One of my favorite TCCs has passed away, too.

I'm sure it could be done tastefully, fitting into the concept that a lady's name is only in the press when she's "bred, wed, and dead". Maybe an Eternal Honor Roll, or even a special chapter designation, with each deceased sister's name & chapter (if not the date of death) listed.

Btw, there's something else I'd like to address, but it's best discussed on the site Brianna runs. If anyone doesn't know what I mean, please contact ASUADPi for it, as I think it's important!

I know EO is working with the web developer to fix that issue with the database. Originally it was believed that the web database and EO Master Database would interact with each other - however once into the new site it was found that was not the case.

At this time it's obviously an unresolved issue. If you're looking for alumnae lists for an association or chapter mailer, I suggest you contact your Alumnae Directors or EO for a current list of "mailable" addresses and email addresses.

The EO database is only as good as the information provided by our sisters, so don't forget to update your information if you move, change your name or just ot udpate your email address.

Thanks, everyone, for your replies, all of which gave me info I was unaware of. Honey, I'll PM Brianna- thanks!

Christy, is there a way to let EO know that a sister is deceased? I've heard of families who purposely DON'Tsay anything so they still get the Adelphean! I mean, could I say that So&So and So&So have passed away, or does the family have to say it?

I could be wrong, but I thought the personal information shown on the PO member directory (phone number, address) was just the information that members chose to make "public" to the Pride Online member profile search?

So, for example, if I have my address and phone number there, but don't want it to come up in a search I can uncheck a box or something and only my initiation year and chapter will come up?

That is correct...

Thanks for the confirmation! I think this may be the reason why BBelleADPi was only seeing names and initiation dates for the other pledge sisters.

I checked w/ EO - let them know the sister's name and chapter, that she has passed away and is showing up on the Member Search listing onf the website. They will remove her from the listing.
