KA Stabbed to Death at WVU

My sister just told me that a guy got stabbed in Morgantown this weekend. She wasn't sure if he was just a pledge or not but she thinks he was a Kappa Alpha there. Just wanted to let everyone know to keep Ryan Johnston's family and the WVU KA's in your prayers......

ETA: He was a member of Kappa Alpha. So sad :(

Any Links to the story?

It is so sad.:(

He's from just south of Pittsburgh

He was a KA, pledged last semester.

From the rumor mill, as I understand it he was walking home and what started out as someone throwing snowballs ended up with him being stabbed. It was also said that the location he was found at was also the residence of the person that did the stabbing. I don't know how accurate that is though.

Unfortunatly stuff like that is pretty common here. A few kids got killed last semester in similar incidents. We had two brothers from my chapter alone that had to get facial/oral surgery last semester. Most things happen outside a specific club that is known for drugs, football players, and trouble. The cops in town don't really care. The guys that I know were told by the cops that they could not press charges and that they would not call an ambulance to help them. One of my brother's almost bled to death before he got to the hospital.

Sounds like a great school.

Yeah, there was a heroin/crack bust in the Sigma Chi house at the end of last school year also.

Needing assistance

First, I am the owner of a small investigative newspaper that deals with crime that is based in the county in which Ryan Johnston lived.
(I am also an old Phi Kappa Tau btw)

Anyways, I need assistance from anyone that has information about this case.
The comments about police worry me given the time that they have taken to bring charges and the fact that there appears to be witnesses.
They could be just doing their jobs throughly, but there is a killer on the loose at this moment.

Please email me at recorder@pulsenet.com or cody4us@yahoo.com or call me 724-350-0127 as I will be in Morgantown most of this week.

As I recall, it was a single individual who allegedly sold "out of" the house.

By the way, I also recall that you posted right after that "last sunday they [Sigma Chi] won an award for being the most outstanding fraternity on campus."

What newspaper is this? I've never heard of a small investigative newspaper in Washington County. I've lived about a mile from the Allegheny-Washington County border most of my life.

Just curious.

I keep hearing the same things from the greek community.

1.It started as a snowball fight.
2.Something happened and it got out of hand.
3.RJ was stabbed.
4.There are witnesses
5.The witnesses are not talking.

Everything I've heard agrees on that. I've heard a few other rumors flying, but I think they are a little far fetched-or just trying to sling mud on someone's name (no matter how deserving).

TSteven,
I don't know what was reported to your GF, but I do know what happened. To this day I do not know why they are still on campus. It was more than just one person. There were at least 5 brothers selling. The guy that took the rap hasn't even had a slap on the wrist. 56 people were named in the drug ring, and he had several million dollars of fines and decades of time possible for the charges. Something pretty corrupt is going on.

Which ties into the KA situation. The police in this town are so inept and are bribed by people that they can't or wont' solve crimes.

Some of the girls in my chapter were friends with him, we were all pretty upset when we heard the news Sunday morning. KA is such a group of great, nice guys.. the article in our school paper Monday morning really made the boy who was killed out to be a great person and brother.

Our campus is a great campus, and what Coramoor said is true. There is ONE bar that causes all the trouble, and if you avoid it, you're good to go. It used to be a great bar until about a year and a half ago, when things started going downhill, and this semester they're trying to change it to make it more Greek oriented again. I've never once felt unsafe walking around Morgantown, either by myself or with friends.

Coramoor 02-24-2006 01:16 PM

Well, they arrested a kid last night that eye witnesses say did the stabbing.

Apparently he lives right across the street from me.
