Internet connection at my dorm isn't good enough
February 2, 2006
An 18-year-old male Arizona State student was arrested Sunday night at Hayden Library and charged with indecent exposure and public sexual indecency. The suspect allegedly pulled his pants and underwear to his mid-thighs to masturbate while watching pornography on his laptop. When asked why he had gone to the library to view pornography and masturbate, the suspect allegedly told police, "To be honest, the Internet connection at my dorm isn't good enough." |
I remember chatting using telnet, and only 4 or 5 computers in the lab had internet access.

The label printer alone was as big as a desk, and five feet high. This was state of the art. |
During my freshman year, my school began wiring all the dorms for high-speed internet access. Before the T1 lines were installed, your only options to get online were dialup from your dorm room, or going to a computer cluster.
When the T1 lines were introduced, the IS department advertised the system by placing ads in the clusters. One of the ads read, "Resnet: Because you can't eat in the clusters." (Eating in the clusters was forbidden for the sake of the computer equipment. The rule was routinely ignored.) Somebody spoofed the ad campaign by putting up ads that read: "Resnet: Because you can't masturbate in the clusters." |
