George Clooney, Reese Witherspoon, Jake Gyllenhal, Joaquin Phoenix, Felicty Huffman.......

Walk the Line did NOT get a best pic nod...

I'm really surprised Walk the Line didn't get a best picture nomination.
Brokeback Mountain got 8 noms though...great movie from what I hear, although, seeing as how I live in the Bible belt/middle of nowhere Arkansas, I haven't seen it yet.

March 5th is my 21st birthday. I guess I'm gonna have to tape it...

Same here, I was sure Crash would be forgotten since it came out so long ago, but I was pleased to see it wasn't...I thought it was a fantastic movie. And I loved Walk the Line (though it drag on a bit), but I don't think it really was "Best Picture" worthy, I'm not terribly surprised it didn't get nominated for that.

Was Resse that great in it? I didn't see it yet, but I read she's a fave (along with Felicity Huffman) for it. I was surprised at Keira Knightly - though I didn't see that movie either, I've never found her that great.

Of course, I also saw an "expert" saying that Joaquin Phoenix would win for best actor. I hope he doesn't. I love Phillip Seymor Hoffan and I really hope he wins...

AND, the "Hard Life if Your a Pimp" song was nominated for best original song!!

I was disappointed that A History of Violence didn't get a nomination and that Viggo Mortenson wasn't nominated either.
I was happy to see Terrence Howard recognized though I don't think he'll win.

My predictions as to who will win though not who I would like to see win:

Best Supporting Actress: Rachel Weisz

Best Supporting Actor: Paul Giamatti

Best Actress: Felicity Huffman

Best Actor: Phillip Seymour Hoffman

Best Picture: Brokeback Mountain

Best Director: Ang Lee

Knightly was getting a lot of buzz before the film was even released; I'd even heard talk that she's a favorite.

It would be great if Hoffman won for best actor; he was great in "Capote," and it would be nice to see such a good actor recognized.

I was too. I wasn't aware that Munich did that well at the box office that it could qualify for a Oscar nod.

I didn't think that box office revenue was a qualification for Oscar nominations.

To throw a little political angle at the pinko commie lefty American-hating gay-loving Hollywood crowd of Democrats who are crying that 2005 ticket sales were down 10%:

The people bought 2005 tickets to:

1 - Star Wars III (will reach $1 bil) - one nomination for "make-up"
2 - Harry Potter (best of the series) - one nom. for "art director)
3 - Nardia - (another $1 bil) - three tech nominations

Hollywood doesn't make enough pictures people like, and don't give honors to the ones they do.

The Best Pix nominees have the lowest gross sales amount of all prev. Best Pix nominees.

Ticket Sales will improve when we get more pictures we like, and less crap like most of the nominees.

(Thanks for Michael Medved for part of this info)

I am so happy for George Clooney. I love him. I really do.

I didn't see Hustle and Flow, but I thought Terrance Howard was excellent in Crash which is my pick for Best Motion Picture.
