A friend e-mailed me this today- She doesn't know the source but I truly hope this is a joke.

What has been going on for years?

ARTIC-U-LATE 01-31-2006 11:04 AM

That's disrespectful. I am mad at their EXTRA "SHMEDIUM" jackets...:(

AKA2D '91 01-31-2006 11:11 AM

Did you receive in the same email the pics of the guys in DST gear? They had on doo rags and bandannas on their heads.

It's been reported that it was supposedly a tribute to greeks. There were accounts of where various sorority members dressed in fraternity gear as well.

1. We don't own letters, nor colors.
2. They are NOT members of the organization.
3. That.is.all! :D

nonchalant 01-31-2006 12:20 PM

Well, I'm not sure about the tribute thing, but I've seen it before where males claim they are part of a sorority. They had a probate show and everything. Saw it at a party I went to at Alabama State. It was very interesting. Of course, as it was stated earlier, they are not members of the org.

I'm sure you already know the answer to your first question since you've posted a comment in the Delta Forum in the thread I started about the guys wearing Delta gear.

Not sure if 1-3 was directed to me but if it is I never said you owned your letters (not sure where that one came from) and it's very obvious they are not members seeing how they are men. As I stated in the title of my thread "I hope it is a joke" one of my Sorors pointed out that it indeed is.;) ;)

prettylondy08 01-31-2006 12:42 PM

now that i see it's a joke and not them-boys-who-wanna-be-AKAs, i think it's kida funny. i know *I* wouldn't let some big ol' negro stretch out my jacket, or sport my letters for the fun of it, but seeing these fellas in the extra medium jackets is tickling me.

and froror number 3 has such a pretty pinky too lol (i joke, i keeeeed).

the DST fellas are precious too... bwahahahahaahaha lol

I would have to agree. I understand the theory behind mock stepshows. But I REFUSE to find the humor in someone that is not a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha wearing the letters. Looking at the SHMEDIUM-ness of the jackets, it's obvious that they borrowed them.

#2's jacket looks EXTRA "shmedium". Not a good look at all.

Actually, I THINK that non-members representing the copyrighted symbols (I know that DSTs symbols are!) of a group is copyright infringement. I know there are some attorneys on here so please correct me if I am wrong.

AKA_blackbarbie 01-31-2006 03:03 PM

I don't know if it is a joke or not but I heard that there are some gentleman who call thereselves MEAKA, or MIAKA:mad: There are "SUPPOSED" to be comparable to what kappa sweets are to Kappas, or alpha angles to Alphas. I have been on quite a few college campuses and have never seen this before in my life. One question: Why would you want to wear the letters of a sorority for any reason if you are a man?

Since the shield is protected by copyright AND the jacket has the shield on it AND the men are wearing the jacket...then it is copyright infringement. I think Soror SummerChild can let me know if I'm wrong or not since I'm not a licensed attorney yet.

prettylondy08 01-31-2006 03:59 PM

is it infringement if you are given permission to display the copyrighted material by a rightful member of the organization in question?

it may be in poor taste, but i don't think it's illegal.

DPiece7 01-31-2006 04:18 PM

i received this email as well and forwarded it to all of my memberfriends

what has become of our black men???:o

Those were/are general statements to anyone who has to be reminded or informed. That.again.is.all (#s1-3)!

But, my initial question about the post was directed at you (initial poster of the thread). That's when I went to DST and saw that you did post the picture of the dudes in Delta. Therefore, my post over there this morning.
