A fraternity of one

The Iota chapter of Lambda Alpha Upsilon at the University of Florida boasts the highest grade-point average of all the multicultural Greek organizations on campus.
And few can match the determination of this fraternity, but it's missing one thing - members. Oscar Melendez is a fraternity of one.
Since spring 2005, when two brothers transferred from UF, Melendez has been looking for other men to join, and if he doesn't find at least five by the end of the semester, the university - and the fraternity's national office - will no longer recognize the organization.
Lambda Alpha Upsilon aims to promote Latino cultural awareness and understanding ...
He said he tries to follow the fraternity's motto: "venceremos porque nacimos para triunsar," or, "we will overcome because we were born to triumph," everyday.
...
"We are a close-knit brotherhood here to uplift the Latin community," said Melendez, intentionally using the word "we."

It is so amazing when people are able to do things like that for their orgs. My friend was the only active member of Zeta Phi Beta on campus for a while, and it was really impressive.

If you consider one guy with greek letters a fraternity, you have to be nuts.

Just because you're the only person in a particular fraternity or sorority on your campus doesn't mean that the fraternity/sorority doesn't exist. It's a much bigger thing than one campus.

Well said, Ren!

I hope he's successful in recruiting more men into his brotherhood. I think that would be a great story, and a real tribute to the fraternity's motto.

Shouldn't it be triunfar, not triunsar?

Learn Spanish verbs - the verb triunfar has been edited by the Spanish Language School Aula Hispanica (Jaca/Spain).
------------------------------------------------------------------------

triunfar = to triumph, to succeed, to win

triunfar is a completly regular verb.
