I’m a Frat Guy and I hate that...
 

Well I don’t want make some long winded rant but there’s someone that I care about a lot and at the end of the day she still thinks of me as a stereotypical frat guy. I’ve accomplished a lot during my time in the Greek system: President of Pi Kappa Phi, President of IFC, and President of the Greek Programming Council etc. But she just sees me as some beer swilling jackass. Has anyone ever had to deal with a GDI who cant look past your letters? I about one step away from cutting my losses and moving on. Any advice?

Yeah, although it was more "stupid sorority girl who likes clapping and getting drunk" than "beer swilling jackass". He was a FORMER member of a fraternity himself, which did NOT help the situation. He would say extremely condescending things when referring to my sorority sisters and any chapter functions that I would attend. And anything I liked- big sunglasses, J.Crew belts, etc.- was branded "so sorostitute". I felt like every thing I did that was GOOD to him, whether liking a band that wasn't top 40 or agreeing with him on foreign policy, was in SPITE of my Greek membership. It sucked and I never figured out how to change his mind.

You can't control how other people see you if they're set on seeing you a certain way.

Cut your losses, move on.

Maybe thats just what she wants, a beer swilling asshole. Play that angle and see where it takes you. If it doesnt work, drop her ass.

If someone is stuck on the fact that you are active in your fraternity, then why is she involved with you?

It's a personal preference. I probably wouldn't date a man with blue hair. Just not my preference. And I'm not into Dungeons and Dragons, so I might go on a few dates with a gamer, but ultimately it is highly unlikely I would continue to date him once I realized that our hobbies were very different.

Either way, and no offense, she sounds kind of bitchy. If she knows you and can't get past some frat-boy stereotype that isn't even accurate, she's pretty lame.
