Now that the Braves have died and the Wolves live on, what will the women's teams be nicknamed:

Surely not She-Wolves?

Congrats to the SUWG - I guess I missed the big article about this in the Atlanta newspaper.

ORLANDO – The University of Kentucky cheerleaders continued it’s dominance at the Universal Cheer Association National Championships by winning their record 15th title, the third in a row, Sunday at Disney’s Wide World of Sports.

The Southeastern Conference was represented by five teams in the 19-team finals. Tennessee finished second while Alabama took home third place. LSU came in sixth and Mississippi State was 15th.

The Wildcat finished sixth in the mascot portion of the championships.

My mom is a former Florida State co-ed cheerleader, and for years, she's wondered HOW the HELL Kentucky keeps winning. The most recent they came in 2nd was in 2003 to UCF.

These days, coming in 2nd to Kentucky is the best anyone can hope for.

Because they're awesome! :D

Kentucky cheerleading is similar to any top NCAA football/basketball/baseball/gymnastics/hockey (insert your personal favorite sport) program. They have a tradition of excellence that attracts top athletes to their program. Kentucky takes cheerleading seriously, and yes, there are scholarships available to Kentucky cheerleaders. It's not necessarily a full ride, but blue squad members get full in-state rides with additional assistance for any out of staters. White squad members are eligible for a partial scholarship if they have a 3.0 or higher.

Re the West Georgia Cheerleaders: One of the girls on the squad lives across the street from me, and I watched her grow up. Her mom carted both her and her sister to gymnastics for years, and it paid off when she received a cheerleading scholarship to West Georgia! Her mother called me and told me that it's a good chance that her sister may be joining her next year. Congratulations to West Georgia!

I love watching the Cheerleader Competitions! Maybe it's because it's so much more athletic than my school ever was, but it always looks like it's fun, yet challenging!

Congratulations to all who competed, and especially the winners of each catagory!
