New Member Traditions
 

Hello Sigma Kappa! My brother's girlfriend has recently pledged at North Georgia College in Dalonaga. She's a lovely young woman and I'm thrilled for you all!

I'm a ZTA and I know the things new members are allowed to have until initiation vary from group to group. I wanted to buy her some things to celebrate but thought I should check first. Can your new members wear letters? Put your letters on their cars? Anything I shouldn't purchase at this point, obviously the crest is out until she's initiated. I just didn't want to buy her something she couldn't use for a while.

I'd say that most of this stuff would vary based on chapter although I'm pretty sure that its against Sigma Kappa's National hazing policies to say that she can't wear letters or having anything with the crest on it. Even though its against the National policy that doesn't mean chapters don't have special meanings for when each girl is given her first shirt with letters on it or something with the crest on it for the first time.

My chapter never had a policy about wearing letters or whatnot & I was given shirts with letters on them to wear at greek events. My big sis gave me a car decal during big/lil week but it didn't have the letters, it just said "Sigma Kappa" in pink & purple.

If I were you I'd buy her Sigma Kappa stationery, picture frames (she'll have tons of pictures that will need frames!!!), dove or heart necklaces/bracelets, cups, pens, etc. She'll get tons of stuff like that during big/lil week anyway & she'll always put them to use I'm sure!

Im an active member at North Georgia College and State, and the new members are definitly allowed to wear letters and they can put things on their cars. I think that some girls have already gotten some letters for their cars so I would just ask her what she has gotten from her heart sisters. The only things that they wont get until later is their things from their bigs with their patterns on them. Which New Member do you know? I love all of them and they are wonderful girls.
