New frat seeks university approval, policy change By Kyle von Bose January 17, 2006 What started out as a couple of friends joking together about the creation of a secret society has blossomed into what could become UAA’s first locally forged fraternity. The decision to create the organization was made after Jonathan Wilcox, speaker of the assembly for USUAA, came to see how popular his group was becoming. With membership rapidly increasing, Wilcox felt a need for official recognition, and Phi Omicron Theta became a reality. “What we are doing is creating, in essence, a working practical brotherhood,” Wilcox said. |
I want to wish these Young Men a lot of Luck.
It may be easier for a Local to function and grow there. LXA closed the Colony there Last year as it was very hard to build membership with no Alum backing, no house, and the cost of working with the Colony from IHQ. |

Alaska...where've you been?
Sig Ep has been at UA-Fairbanks for three years, and my cousin,
Eric Conard was prex three years ago. Tri Sigma has pioneered there on the distaff side. TKE was invited three years ago to pioneer UA-Anchorage as we had a rather impressive list of interested alums. We declined. Then DKE briefly took a shot at it and folded, the SAE came on, then LXA (did poorly and folkded) Sigma Sigma Sigma is now at UA-A and I think another group. Cannot get TKE HQ to go to Alaska though we have a large cadre of alumni. Where on earth have you all been? I know...Frau Blücher is having a quilting party. |

Alaska increase
Oddly enough and I do mean *odd*, right now Alpha Phi Omega is in the middle of huge growth in Alaska. We just rechartered UAFairbanks in the Fall, have a Petitioning Group) Colony at UASouthEast and some interest at one other school.
Yes it is tough to get a foothold up there, but sometimes things just fall into place. Randy |
