I saw this earlier today. So sad. I hope they find the miners safe and sound. :( It's strange that this follows so closely on the heels of the other mining incident in WV.

I wonder if these types of incidents occur more often than we know, and the media is making a big deal about it because of the tragedy earlier this month?

They just showed a press conference announcing they found the two miners dead :(

They're adding a mining classes to my school next year. Hopefully that might save some lives in the future.

I was wondering the same thing :(

My thoughts & prayers are with their families.

This is so heartbreaking, for so many people. Thousands of people go into mines on a daily basis, and they have a reasonable expectation to come out alive each day. May blessings and favor be on ALL miners and their families, every moment, every day.

I don't think so.

Human beings have always found it dramatic when people are caught underground or under water. That's why there are lots of movies about those subjects.

Add to that the "race against time" aspect and it makes a pretty compelling news story.

The mines are fairly safe when taken into account how dangerous that environment actually is.

If you want to find some deplorable mining conditions, go to China. The companies there don't even know how many people die on a give day/week. There are so many people looking for a well paying job that it doesn't even matter over there.

I heard or read something last week about China closing (at least temporarily) some of the mines in order to make them safer.

They must be a real mess.
