School with the best crowd for a basketball game (other than your own)

I'm going to have to say Duke. My school is cool, but nothing compared to with Duke. I love it when the Cameron Crazies jump up and down and chanting "Let's go, Duke." In a close second, I'll have to say Michigan State.

Kansas has one of the best crowds in the NCAA for sure, Iowa State isn't far behind.

From what I see on TV. Hmmm Duke, UNC, Oregon, Arizona, MSU, Kansas

I've been to games at USC, UCLA, UCSB, Long Beach St, and Cal Poly Pomona.

Believe it or not, UCSB (when on ESPN) is freaking NUTS. But that is because everyone has an STD and jumps up and down because they have the clap.

God I should have went there...

I disagree on both - Allen Fieldhouse is a tough place to play, but the fans aren't any different than, say, OU. ISU used to have a MASSIVE home-court advantage during the Orr era, and even up until 2 seasons ago, but they've been thumped at home a couple times since then (Morgan started like 37-1 at home), and they've actually had open seats lately. Plus they've cracked down on the student section a little.

I wouldn't put either at the top of the heap, nationwide - neither is close to Cameron (seriously - have you ever been inside there? It's smaller than most high school gyms..) or even the Dean Dome.

(And, just so ISUKappa doesn't beat me, Hilton is still far better than Carver, and it's not close)

Crowd spirit is important, but the building is as well. Some of the older gyms, where the seats are in decks, and the overall crowd is much "closer" to the floor really add to the intensity and noise level.

The newer buildings are great, but sometimes kind of "sterilize" the overall effect of the crowd.

At least that's my opinion after televising at a lot of places.

Duke looks ridiculous - I've never been, but I can't imagine how crazy it gets there.

As far as places I've been; UConn gets pretty nuts, especially during Big East season.

I know we aren't supposed to post our own school, but I have no choice. Oklahoma State's Gallagher-Iba Arena has to be in the top 5 places to watch college basketball. The students are right on the floor, and it is so small that the noise is ridiculous. They expanded a few years back, but agreed to expand straight up and not out so that the acoustics would remain just as insane.

I don't think we're anywhere near Duke league, but the Hilton Magic is definitely a force to be reckoned with, especially during home games against teams like Iowa and Kansas.

I think it's also pretty cool that we have great attendance for women's games as well.

It'll be interesting to see what happens when they do some remodeling and updating and add the practice courts underneath.

- I'll still beat you, that's what you paid me for, right?

USCTKE 01-11-2006 01:47 PM

my school USC has one of the worse crowds...no one except the students make any noise, of course that is because our team SUCKS and we need a new coach

NutBrnHair 01-11-2006 03:36 PM

Having recently attended the Lady Vols vs. UCONN in Knoxville, I'll have to say UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE. UT defeated their rival in front of the largest home crowd ever.

I love how the Gaucho students were yelling "State School" when they played SDSU in soccer and basketball.

That's still not as bad as when we played USD and they chanted "Safety School" at us. Hello idiots, USD's a MUCH bigger safety school than we are. No one WANTS to go to USD, MANY people want to come here. It's actually harder to get into State than USD now.

TristanDSP 01-11-2006 03:54 PM

I can only dream of being in an environment like Duke. San Diego has never gotten that way for anything, even the Chargers and Padres.

LOL, there should be no "for sure" on this statement.

Duke all the way.

lol Dude alot of my friends went to USD.

Their line of reasoning? " Um ew. USC is in the ghetto. Um ew, Chapman is too close to home. Um ew? LMU? I'd rather go to University of La Verne! "

Everyone from USD always goes to SDSU for parties. And people from UCSD hides in their little corner and studies on a thursday, friday, saturday, sunday, monday, tuesday, wedneday night.
