Does anyone have results for Beta Phi (Indiana), Nu Omicron (Vandy), Chi Delta (Colorado), Chi Epsilon (Ohio State), or Omega (Miami)?

By the way, this is the first Spring recruitment for sororities at the University of Colorado, mandated after the problems recently between the administration and Greek organizations over alcohol abuse.

Also, there is an article in the Duke Chronicle about the recruitment results. I can't get the actual link to work, but it is posted in another thread. I think it was lovely for the writer to highlight AOII's results not only for this year, but last year also. http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...68#post1173468

I haven't heard numbers but I know Beta Phi (IU) did very, very well.

ADqtPiMel 01-18-2006 01:58 PM

The Miami University chapter took quota of 43. :)

Christin will let us know about Chi Epsilon as soon as things quiet down in her life.

I'll post Epsilon numbers as soon as FR is done as Sunday....

aopirose 01-19-2006 09:32 PM

Sigma Beta's first formal recruitment is February 4 - 11.

My sister just moved to Lakeland and she's going to stop by the Kappa Gamma chapter this weekend (I'm pretty sure their FR is over this weekend) so I'll let you all know whatever she finds out.

Over in the DG forum, it mentions that only 2 of 14 NPC chapters at Ohio State took quota this Spring. How does that happen? Does OSU have an unusual method of determining quota? It seems like a system where only 2/14 take quota would be disheartening to both the members and PNMs.

aopirose 01-20-2006 01:08 PM

AOIIAlum can definitely tell us more, but I don’t think that they have an unusual method. What probably happened is that there were a number of drops between quota setting and bid card signing. Why they may have dropped is anybody’s guess.

AOIIalum 01-20-2006 02:20 PM

Hi all,

Well, I still think it's unusual after being around here for so long now, but that's just me. :)

Campus total is the important number in this story, which is 100 members. If quota would put a chapter over total, then they were not permitted to take quota. For example, one OSU chapter returned at 88 members in January, so they could only take 12 in formal.

I was told that quota was set at 17, but heard midweek that quota was actually 25? Approximately 250 women participated in Preference, and there are 14 chapters at Ohio State. I believe only three women went unmatched, which is wonderful for this campus. Also, I do not know if the number of chapters achieving quota actually reflects those chapters who could not take the full quota. I tend to doubt it, but again, I don't have final numbers for half of the OSU sororities as of now.

I can tell you that four chapters welcomed 10 New Members on Bid Day, including Chi Epsilon. I have not heard on snap or COR bids this week, but expect to see that number rise over the next week for all of those sororities! XE had an amazing recruitment with strong returns and great feedback all week long. I am so proud of them.

NeonPi, are you having flashbacks after reading all of that?? :D

OleMissGlitter 01-20-2006 02:27 PM

Well, I just think that is strange...so if a chapter was at total during recruitment (it could happen at Ole Miss) that chapter could not take anyone? I'm glad our Chi Epsilon chapter got ten new members, that sounds wonderful! I know they are a very strong chapter!

irishpipes 01-20-2006 02:35 PM

I thought that NPC rules were such that a chapter is always permitted to take quota? (Even if that puts them over total.) I am no expert, but I thought this was an NPC rule, not a campus-by-campus rule. No?

That definitely is an NPC thing but university rules supercede NPC. Some universities want to have a certain "hold", for lack of a better term, on their GLOS. The university says that sorority chapters can have no more than 100 members. A reason is so that GLOs are not the end all be all but just another option. At a particular private school, the sororities are capped at 40 or 45. It creates insane competition among the groups and so many women are left out. In that situation, I understand what the univeristy is trying to do but it creates a mess for the chapters. It also creates such disparity of classes within the chapter.

BTW - Thanks AOIIAlum for explaining and Yay, for our new sisters!

Hell, ya!

Those are really low numbers for OSU to have coming out - even 3 years ago, they used to be a LOT higher.... I would bet most women got placed exactly where they wanted to be, but most houses proably missed by only a few of what their quota was - which regardless, it is great PNM got (most likely) their choice.
