Alum Chair

What does Your GLO and Local think of the Alum Chair Position?

I have given this a lot of thought and have contacted not only One of LXA Board of Ditectors but a Major Sorority and Fraternity National President and Ex. Director.

It is considered in LXA a Minor Officership and should not be.

There are many reasons one being finances for GLOs.

Another is keeping Alums in the loop with The Local Chapters. If Alums are included in information, they will be more apt to stay active, come back for functions, and donate money to the local Chapter or to National.

Where does Your GLO stand on Alum Chairs and what do You think of the idea of elevating to a higher level.

Alpha Gamma Deltas # 2 person who would take over if the National President cannot function, the next in line is the VP of Alum. I think they have the right idea there.

Thoughts?

i totally agree.

were it not for those that came before us,
much [if not everything] we cherish would not exist.

we owe it to our alums to keep them posted and to hold them at a high esteem.

as an undergrad, i was the first alumnae coordinator to take my position seriously; i created an alum database, held the first alumnae picnic, created a yahoogroup, sent the first newsletter, and took pride in knowing where i came from... and actually meeting our local founders. ♥

as an alum myself, i now see the importance of continuously reaching out... the updates, the emails, the pictures, the subtle touches that let us know we are still appreciated [remembered].

more often than not, life gets it the way,
but constant communication allows us to feel as if we are still somewhat "in the loop" therefore more willing to attend events and provide support when requested.

on a national level, dphie has been focusing on alumnae outreach. i wish we had the alum support that older organizations have, but i understand we are a "younger" glo, therefore we must start somewhere....

hopefully one day my org will also see the alum support that other glo's seem to have, which will greatly increase the expansion and viability of our chapters nationwide.

Alumni chair is a big position, both in my org as a whole and in my chapter. My chapter is relatively young (19 years this year), so it's been important to us to maintain contact with Founding Fathers and the early members of the chapter. Hopefully it will set the basis for a large network of alumni in the future.
