Good Luck, Vince

It's official:

Young leaving Longhorns for NFL

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Vince Young is headed to the NFL.

The quarterback who led Texas to its first national championship in 36 years announced Sunday he would make himself eligible for the NFL draft.

"I thank God for the opportunity to be in this position," Young said at a news conference. "Hard work has paid off a whole lot."

Young, who led the Longhorns to a 41-38 Rose Bowl win over top-ranked Southern California on Wednesday, could have returned to Texas for his senior season and would have been a favorite to win the Heisman Trophy.............

Rest of the Story

I have to say, I'm glad to see him go into the draft. It's good for him, good for the teams that he would have played next year... Good for just about everyone but the UT football program. :) Good luck to him.

What does everyone else think? Good idea, or a mistake? What do you think this will to do UT football next year? Will he go first in the draft?

Well, I think this makes next year completely up for grabs.

Texas still has alot of talent, and should still be in the top 10.

Ohio State will definately be the favorite, but not the clearcut favorite depending on the defense.

my top 5 would be ...

1- Ohio State
2- LSU
3- ND
4- USC
5- WVU

eta: I also think it's a smart move by Vince to leave now. He will make alot more money this way. His stock is at an all time high right now. Will I think he will be successful in the NFL? Sure he can have success, he's got alot of talent. But he definately, MOST DEFINATELY needs to work on his throwing mechanics! NORM CHOW can help him out with that. You know, since the titans is the team that he will most likely go to.

I think that it's the right decision for him.

What is going to be most important for him having success in the NFL is if the team that gets him really opens up their offense to accomodate his talents. I dont' see that happening b/c the NFL is a very conservative and homogenous place, but if the team that gets him is willing to put an offense in place that let's him run, then he'd be very dangerous. He's a better runner than Michael Vick.

But good luck...and thanks for taking off the year before you play Nebraska.

Bobby's preseason is pretty spot on.

It probably is the best decision for him, but MAN, I hate to see him go!:(

Good Luck, Vince - it's been fun.

He had nothing left to prove in college, and he wouldn't have made that great of an improvement on his flaws in one more year. His arm angle will always be strange, and his popularity is at its highest. Some projections I'm reading now have him as a top 3 pick.

Ugghhh! I hate that he's leaving-but as Mr.RN puts it, why stay in college another year where he could possibly get hurt, as opposed to going to the draft where he'll make $5 million a year?

But at the same time, while Texas will still be good next year, I don't know if we'll be Rose Bowl good ( as it pains me to say that).
