Quick Question about rush.
Hey everyone!
I got a quick question: I hear that formal recruitment in SEC schools are extremely competitive, I was wondering that is the case? Also, is rush that competitive in the West or does it depend on the size of the school? I know that SEC schools have a huge Greek presence. I know where I go to school, Loyola Marymount University, it's about 1 in 4 women who are in sororities but it's rising. I remember in last years recruitment about 85% of PNMs received a bid so I am assuming my school is not really competitve, right? I'm totally new to this so every little bit of information helps. Thanks so much! |
Honestly, spend some time reading through old threads. Many of your questions can be answered there. You're asking some very broad questions that are anything but "quick". Take some time to educate yourself, then if you have more specific questions, ask them :)

like kddani said, there are tons of old sec recruitment threads. go to the main "rush" forum page, scroll down to the bottom of the page. look over to the right and you will see the search feature. just type in "sec rush" or "ole miss rush" or "auburn rush", etc. and enjoy!!

Is that 85% of the PNMs that started recruitment or 85% of the PNMs that completed Preference round? It makes a difference.
Recruitment varies wildly from campus to campus. Unless you are willing to let us know exactly where, we can't offer an opinion. |

Whether or not you tell the school is up to you - you can go back and edit your post to remove the school name if you wish.
However, you still didn't clarify if that 85% receiving bids was of the total number of women starting Recruitment or if it was 85% of the women that actually finished recruitment - those are two different numbers. Regardless, we have a lot of SOCAL folks on board and they can probably tell you more about the Recruitment at your specific school. |

Thanks for the insight about disclosing my school or not, cleared a lot of things up for me ;) |
I have this major urge to put my head through the monitor.
That is all. |

It sounds like you are confused as to what is appropriate to post on this MB. You have already revealed your school, and that is fine, but you might want to stop there. Most PNMs who post choose to give coded names to the GLOs they are rushing so that they don't offend anyone on the MB, or even risk being adversley affected by their comments during recruitment. So, your campus has the following NPCs:
Alpha Phi Delta Gamma Delta Zeta Kappa Alpha Theta Pi Beta Phi Most PNMs choose to call them something else, let's just say colors or something. It is perhaps wiser to post that you were uncomfortable at "yellow" and you loved "orange" than to post that you were uncomfortable at Alpha Phi and loved Delta Gamma. Surely you can see why. If you can read this MB, so can Alpha Phis and DGs. As to the nature of recruitment at your school, just because it isn't in the SEC doesn't necessarily mean it isn't competitive. The Greek Life office at your school may be helpful, but there are usually unwritten rules that are particular to each campus, and the only way to understand those is to tactfully talk with insiders - active members and alumnae of that Greek System. Just be careful how you ask and what you ask. And keep in mind that active members may be restricted in what they can talk about with you. |
