5 TKE chapters get special Christmas "greetings"
December 15, 2005
TKE suspends five chapters failing to meet Fraternity minimum standards INDIANAPOLIS, IN —Tau Kappa Epsilon International Fraternity, in collaboration with its local alumni officers and university officials, has taken disciplinary action against five chapters that failed to meet the Fraternity’s minimum standards. The disciplinary action includes the suspension of all chapter operations and activities for TKE Chapters at Rutgers University (Alpha-Eta), University of Colorado (Gamma-Iota), University of South Florida (Lambda-Alpha), University of Minnesota (Theta), Western Illinois University (Zeta-Theta) “In order to be a TKE Chapter, we expect every group to meet certain minimum standards related to chapter operations, membership, finance and discipline. If a group consistently falls short of those standards, it will no longer continue to operate,” said Kevin Mayeux, CEO. In each chapter closure, TKE worked with university officials to ensure a return to campus in the future. |
it is Sad! But TKE is becoming Much more intune with Greek Life and not putting up with Some Chapters!
Good For TKE!:) :D  |
How would like to go home and tell the folks that? Where do they live when it is in-between semesters? Curious to know how much notice the chapters were given, how many chances to change they were given, and if anything in the chapters changed after any chances.

It's kind of a Low-Blow, but at the same time, I understand a chapter needs to keep a certain amount of requirements met in order to continue operating.

There's a joke in here somewhere...but I dont' want to be mean.

nothing new
Four of the five TKE chapters whose charters have been pulled
have been in trouble for a good many years. There are several others....any chapter under thirty is in trouble if they are on major campuses and with a house. But, if a chapter cannot meet minimum charter standards they ought to be put on 'double secret probation.' To those bitchers, bellyachers and so-called judges, there are a good many of us Tekes who do not necessarily agree with the policies and charterings, but you seem to overlook this. We do, though, continue to try to make the Fraternity better, not just send hateful letters. I'd guess that other outfits have some chapters in trouble, too. This is addressed to NIC chapters, not to streetcar schools, shopping malls and fatso clubs who have taken greek letters. I realize we have no monopoly on them. |
did these all really happen just now, or is this a "summing up" of what happened over the semester? I could swear I heard about one or two of those previously.

E C and all TKEs ETAL, We all not angels by any stretch of the imagination.
But as I said before it is the same thing as if You cant do the time then dont do the crime.:( We as NIC and NPC have Chapters that are not following all of the ideals.:( But, We as Alums and Advisors can only do so much and only if they want to be receptive. |

I doubt this was a surprise to any of those chapters... you usually have to be in poor standing for at least a year or two before the nationals take such action.
sucks for TKE... I'm sure they will recover. |
good luck, and I'm sorry
I was a collegiate at the University of Minnesota, and I remember when TKE recolonized (or, at least, got a house on row to live in). I was very excited for them to recolonize, and those I met seemed to be really cool guys. They were only able to rent the house on the row for about a year, though, and I don't think they were (able to be?) very involved in the greek campus events. After they moved out of their house, I never really heard about them. I imagine recruitment couldn't have been easy, then, either.
All I can say is I'm always sorry to hear of greek chapters closing (especially at my home campus), but understand it sometimes must happen and I wish TKE the best. Karla |
I know Zeta-Theta had been in bad shape for YEARS. Back in 2002-03 they were averaging about 8-12 members. Great guys, but they just couldn't get the recruitment together.
