NY Police Officer Killed, Sopranos, Bronx Tale Actor Arrested
This is such an awful story. This is the second police officer killed in New York in two weeks. Lillo Brancato, Jr. who starred in "A Bronx Tale" and was on "The Sopranos" was arrested.
An off-duty police officer was killed Saturday in a gunfight with two burglars outside his home, and authorities said an actor from "The Sopranos" was a suspect. Daniel Enchautegui, 28, a three-year veteran, was pronounced dead at a hospital following the 5:15 a.m. shooting, said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly. He was the second officer to die in the line of duty in two weeks. "This is a loss to the department and the city," said Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who joined Kelly at the hospital. "We now have another life to mourn, taken from us for no sensible reason." The officer had returned to his Bronx home after finishing a late shift when he heard breaking glass in an unoccupied house next door, Kelly said. The officer first called his landlord, then called 911 to report a possible burglary. The officer grabbed his off-duty weapon and went outside to investigate. His landlord heard Enchautegui shout, "Police! Don't move!", followed by the sound of gunfire, Kelly said. The officer was struck once in the chest with a bullet from a .357-caliber revolver. Before collapsing in the driveway of the home, he returned fire and struck both of the suspects -- one was hit twice, the other four times. One of the suspects was identified by police as Lillo Brancato Jr., an actor who also appeared in several episodes of "The Sopranos" as Matt Bevilacqua, a mob wannabe who eventually was murdered. He made his debut in the Robert De Niro-directed film "A Bronx Tale" back in 1993. Brancato was arrested in June for criminal possession of a controlled substance. Wow. That makes me really sad. A Bronx Tale is one of my favorite movies and I really thought Lillo was a great actor. Even if he's innocent, being involved in other crap is a shame.
And it's really sad that this officer was trying to do his job. I don't even know what to say. |
Although police officers are never really "off duty" in the strictest sense, it always strikes me even harder when one is killed while not on "The Job."
Patrolling the streets is bad enough, but to be killed trying to protect your own neighborhood is really hard to take. |
Have seen this to many times and know an Officer who was shot and had to leave the KCK Dept because of injuries. Named Boatright-Daniel Boatright is His Daughter on TV tonight!
What the Heck was this psuedo actor doing breaking into a house? He will have a tuff time as being in NY, Killing a Police Officer and NY Gun Laws! Hope He and His cohort both get it in the neck! |
this is so disheartening. you are all ready a movie star, or was, yet you have to stoop to levels of robbing DRUG DEALERS.... and even if he didnt shoot the gun, he was still there, and part cause of that officers death.
to think i loved him once, lillo :p |
I think he's innocent. I hope he walks.
If the cop didn't want to die, he should have minded his own his business. And don't give me all this "he was just doing his job" crap, he was off duty. Was he shot 21 times for reaching for his wallet? NYPD gets their just desserts. |
