Need some Assistance!

A member of GC PMed Me about Her Grandfather passing a couple of Years ago.

She is trying to find out how to notify IHQ about His passing.

That is not the problem though.

He said He was a LX from NYU. He also went to Fordham and In. Un., taught at In. U. Depaw and Az. Un.

I find no listing for an NYU. Was there back in the early 20-30s a School in NY that was known at NYU only? I can find nothing in Paedagogus or Directory.

His name was: Raymond Alexander Mulligan.

Any Help would be great so I can let Her know!

in ZAX,

NYU = New York University

ETA: Try Washington Square campus

RACooper 12-10-2005 05:23 PM

No NYU listing back then...

However could it be Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn - which is now called New York Polytechnic University?
* this would be the Theta-Upsilon Zeta chartered in 1925

This is my best guess Tom

GammaZeta 12-10-2005 05:26 PM

Maybe Tom.

Umass changed it's name from Massachusetts College to the University of Massachusetts.

Try New York College or something like that.

Good luck!

Or call NYU right now.

Peaches-n-Cream 12-10-2005 05:41 PM

Maybe City College of New York or CCNY is what you want.

Tom Earp 12-10-2005 05:52 PM

GammaZeta that is what I thought Originally too.

P & C nope. But, I will Check it anyway. Thanks for the hint.

It had to be in the 1920-30s as He would have been about the right age.

Checked Jon Sagaras Site which is at the top of LXA Thread and couldnt find anything.

That is why I wondered if it was like U Mass. Changed Names.

Rob, will try that also!:)

Dang, this gets madening at times. But, Love a Mystery!:D

Only chapters/schools listed pre-1941 in NY State are:

Alfred University - Alfred, NY
Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn - Brooklyn, NY
Colgate College - Hamilton, NY
Cornell University - Ithaca, NY
Hamilton College - Clinton, NY
Rensselare Poly. Inst. - Troy, NY
Syracuse University - Syracuse, NY
Union College - Schenectady, NY

You can see why I think it's Brooklyn

Looking in the 2003 Directory I find a Dr. Raymond A. Mulligan, Arizona '37. I would assume that's him since his middle name was Alexander, it's in the '30s, and AZ is one of the schools mentioned. Hope this helps.

ZAX,
Jono

Well he was a professor of sociology and he did teach at Arizona... you can do internet searches that do turn up his name as a faculty member there. However I do wonder about one thing about the directory entry you cited - the problem is that there was no Arizona chapters back then - so I wonder why the directory would list him in such a way?

Because he was initiated as an honorary there. All years in the Directory are "class of".

Dr. Gary Wells, for instance, is listed under Florida Tech as class of '64. He was (and still is) a professor at Florida Tech but did not go to school there We weren't even a local until 1968.

In other words, Brother Mulligan graduated from "somewhere" in 1937 and was initiated at U. Arizona - we don't know when.

Thanks - that explanation makes a lot of sense...

You've also pretty much nailed the answer for Tom too - since he it looks like he was Honourary from Arizona... well the records should be up to date (as per the directory) and IHQ can be effectively notified ~ and I suspect given those who post on this site they may already know.

Tom Earp 12-11-2005 11:38 AM

Jono ETAL, I think that has to be the answer.

I had checked Polytechnic and Depaw but no luck and walla with Jonos aide, He is listed in Arizona.

But, the way this GCer talked He was very proud of being a LXA!:)

Honorary sounds right from the information My Brothers have led me towards and found.
I never had a doubt that someone would be able to help!!!!

I will notify Her Immediately.

Many Thanks to all that helped!:)

lifesaver 12-12-2005 01:32 PM

Yeah, you dont have to have a school to do a member search. Its my understanding that you can provide them (HQ) with a name and they can search the new computer system for someones membership status. (might even ba able to do this with the old system as well).

Tom Earp 12-12-2005 05:59 PM

Sorry, but felt why bother them when We have some of the finest Minds on GC!!:)

They have more than enough to do.

Just proved I was correct once again!!

EXiADPi 12-13-2005 10:03 PM
