Alcohol rules confusion!

I visited my alma mater this weekend and went out to the bar w/ my friends. All these women started coming in in formal dresses, so I asked my friends what was up with that? She said they were from 2 sororities that had the new alcohol-free events regulation. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you permitted to have alcohol at a formal if you have a third party vendor?

I know those are the rules down here. Also that whole no more than 5 sisters at a fraternity house with alcohol.

I thought that varied sorority to sorority . . . alcohol regulations that is.

At my school, if there are more than two members of a sorority present at an event than it is considered a sorority event, so no liquor can be there. That means that even if my fraternity had an event with a third party vendor, and two girls from a sorority were there, they would have to leave. These rules are stupid. If the person is of legal age to drink they should be able to. I know I would tell the sorority to kiss my ass.
