Ever wonder how you'd vote in Canada?

Well, I have seen a number of threads that rate your political leanings with regard to the past US elections... so here is one for the upcoming Canadian elections (also known as Elexmas :D):

Basically it is a quiz in which you choose to agree or disagree with issues; or you can chose to ignore a statement with which you neither agree with nor disagree with - and then finding out which leader/party you agreed with.

Just leave the four parties selected for the best restults (sorry no Greens).

Quiz:

As for me:

If I pick agree or disagree with every issue:
Paul Martin - agreed on 12 issues
Jack Layton - agreed on 9 issues
Gilles Duceppe - agreed on 5 issues
and poor ol' Stephen Harper - agreed on 3 issues

If I only agree with one statement/issue:
Paul Martin - agreed on 9 issues
Jack Layton - agreed on 2 issues (health care & economic growth)
Gilles Duceppe - agreed on 1 issue (gun control)
Stepen Harpen - zero

hmmm.... looks like I'm voting Liberal unless the party platforms shift - or more issues are introduced.

Taualumna 12-04-2005 12:49 PM

Taualumna agreed with... (I left out Bloc):

Jack Layton on 8 issues

Paul Martin on 11

Stephen Harper on 9

...disagreed with...

Layton:4

Martin: 1

Harper: 3

Neutral:

0 for all three

RACooper 12-04-2005 01:39 PM

I left the Bloc in for sheer interest sake - I founf it interesting that I agreed with some of their polices more than I did Harper's... which given my distaste for the Bloc was surprising.

Sistermadly 12-04-2005 07:26 PM

I answered all 12 areas. I agreed with:

Stephen Harper on 6 issues (Farming, Relations with the provinces, Foreign Aid, Taxes, National Security, Healthcare Funding)

Jack Layton (that hottie!) on 9 issues (Employment Insurance, Farming, Relations with the provinces, Gun Control, Foreign Aid, Taxes, National Security, Defence Spending, Economic Growth)

Gilles Duceppe on 8 issues (Employment Insurance, Foreign Aid, Taxes, Child Care, National Security, Defence Spending, Economic Growth, Healthcare Funding)

Paul Martin on 8 issues (Employment Insurance, Farming, Relations with the provinces, Gun Control, Foreign Aid, Child Care, National Security, Economic Growth)

I disagreed with:
Stephen Harper on 6 issues (Employment Insurance, Gun Control, Parliamentary Reform, Child Care, Defence Spending, Economic Growth)

Jack Layton on 3 issues (Parliamentary Reform, Child Care, Healthcare Funding)

Gilles Duceppe on 4 issues (Farming, Relations with the provinces, Gun Control, Parliamentary Reform)

Paul Martin on 4 issues (Parliamentary Reform, Taxes, Defence Spending, Healthcare Funding)

So as someone from the outside who will soon be a Canadian citizen, what do you guys think this makes me?

You sound like you could have a tough time between NDP and Liberal

That's what I figured. I'm going to be joining a party pretty soon, and I'm having a hard time coming to a final decision.

Hehe... sorry - but that was a very American statement to make: "join a party"... about the only people who do that up here do so to actually get involved either helping a candidate or as a candidate themselves.

But then again who I am to talk...

I guess I'm weird then...I joined a party at 19 and didn't get involved with any candidate until about two years ago. But I'm not very "Canadian" to begin with!

Lady Pi Phi 12-04-2005 11:29 PM

I agreed with:

Gilles Duceppe on 8 issues

Jack Layton on 10 issues

Paul Martin on 8 issues

Stephen Harper on 9 issues

NOT BLOODY LIKELY!!!!!

I have to agree with Rob on this one.

I haven't found many Canadians that have actually joined a party.

Although, I was myself considering joining the Greens. I will never vote for any of those other parties again (well maybe Conservative if they get rid of Harper) and don't even get me started on why I don't think the Bloc should be be allowed to run in Federal elections!

...and that's exactly my intention.

I agreed mostly with Jack Layton, but I have no idea who he is or what he stands for! I would guess a strong national defense?

bcdphie 12-05-2005 04:17 PM

I decided to redo the quiz, with all 4 leaders this time - here's my outcome...

I agreed with:

Paul Martin on 10 issues:
Taxes, Child Care, Relations with the provinces, National Security, Gun Control, Farming, Employment Insurance, Economic Growth, Healthcare Funding, Defence Spending

Stephen Harper on 6 issues:
Taxes, Child Care, Foreign Aid, Gun Control, Farming, Healthcare Funding

Jack Layton on 11 issues:
Taxes, Parliamentary Reform, Child Care, Relations with the provinces, National Security, Foreign Aid, Gun Control, Farming, Employment Insurance, Economic Growth, Defence Spending

Gilles Duceppe on 6 issues:
on 6 issues Taxes, Child Care, National Security, Gun Control, Healthcare Funding, Defence Spending

I disagreed with:

Paul Martin on 2 issues:
Parliamentary Reform, Foreign Aid

Stephen Harper on 6 issues:
Parliamentary Reform, Relations with the provinces, National Security, Employment Insurance, Economic Growth, Defence Spending

Jack Layton on 1 issue:
Healthcare Funding

Gilles Duceppe on 6 issues:
Parliamentary Reform, Relations with the provinces, Foreign Aid, Farming, Employment Insurance, Economic Growth

Now according to this I should be voting Liberal or NDP. Hell would have to freeze over before I vote NDP, either Federally or Provincially...
