2005-2006 NCAA Basketball Thread

Yeah, it's not even December yet, but college football season is starting to wind down. I LOVE COLLEGE BASKETBALL!!!!

My loyalty lies with my Cyclones, who much like their football counterparts are already having an up and down season. They lost to Iona on Saturday night. (Not a good day for Cyclone sports.) However, tonight they beat the University of Northern Iowa.

They'll have a chance to beat Texas A&M, Mizzou, Nebraska, Colorado and Baylor of the Big XII. I wouldn't expect them to do any better than 6th in the conference.

The husband hates to watch any Cyclone sports with me because I get so involved in the game (which almost always involves me yelling at the tv, throwing something at the tv or switching the channel chanting 'I can't watch this anymore!').

I don't know, it seems we always manage to pull off at least one huge upset a year. Last year it was Texas in OT.

As a long shot, watch for the Ohio University Bobcats.

Believe it or not.

I'm excited that Texas is starting out at #2!! Let's see how long it lasts.
In the last couple of years, I've discovered that I really like college hoops!

UConn is off to a good start. Hopefully Marcus Williams quits his laptop-stealing ways and is able to come back in January. With a good point guard, this could be a championship team.

In other news, the BU Terriers are 0-4, and scored less than 40 points in their last game.

It helps when your team doesn't suck.

Can we talk about division 2 womens basketball in here? My school was kick ass when I was in school! Back to Back champions baby! Too bad no one cared.

My school kicks ass in the NAIA -- it's considering moving up to D-I so it can be fodder for state schools.

You must be joking. Iowa State is EXTREMELY overrated, they started the season ranked on name recognition only. They will not win vs. Texas, @ Tech, @ Neb, @ Mizzou, @ KU, @OU, vs. OSU, or @ Baylor. That's 8 losses right there. Add in the fact that I think KU and A&M will win at Ames and that puts them at 6-10 and in no better than 7th or 8th place. This is a team that has lost home games to EA Sports (exhib. but still) and freakin' Iona by 12. They also squeaked by Bemidji State (an average D2 school) by 7 and UNI by another 7.

The Big XII will finish

1. Texas
2. OU
3. OSU
4. KU
5. Tech
6. Texas A&M
7. ISU
8. Nebraska
9. Baylor
10. Mizzou
11. K State
12. Colorado

I honestly think 6th place is a little more accurate for them. Yeah, they've had those losses and I'm not going to make excuses for losing to Iona. UNI is actually a pretty good team, that should do fairly well overall. I imagine they (UNI) will probably be going back to the NCAA tourney again this year.
I think a lot of the ISU preseason ranking started out with Stinson being a preseason All-American and preseason All-Big 12. He's good, and I love to watch him play, but I know he can't carry the whole team. The team doesn't have a strong person at center and that really sucks.

Go Spartans!

Bring on the Green and the White. The season has had some interesting games with my boys, but I think that they might be getting back their swagger.

The Maui Tourney was a test and I took some crap from my friend who is a fan of Gonzaga, but I took it politely. :) :) But 3OT's, that was a great game. Towards the end, it was kind of anyone's game.

Note-that I haven't seen many of their games so far since I am not living in MI and they aren't regional for me, but I have seen the scores. So my opinion right now is from what I hear, not what I have seen...

damasa 12-04-2005 10:02 PM

Milwaukee Panthers baby. Watch out for the boys across the way at Marquette as well.

Too true - I think if I were exposed to good college football when I was younger, I would be a bigger fan. I started following college basketball just as UConn got bigger regionally/nationally (the Cliff Robinson days, and then the Scott Burell and Chris Smith days), and that's why I became such a big college hoops fan.
