Mr. Morita was also a longtime Hawai`i resident who frequented the local community theater scene. I remember meeting him when I was 8 and I was so excited because I got to meet the guy from Happy Days and the Karate Kid.

He shall be missed. :(

Rest in peace, Brother Pat...

Pat Morita was a patient in the Shrine hospital when he was a kid... when he was cured, he repaid the favor by becoming a Mason and a Shriner himself.

He also was credited with "rewriting" the scene in Karate Kid where he is drunk and remembering his late wife. He added the military service aspect and even hummed a real song that was sung at the Japanese internment camps during WWII. I think that was the best scene in the film.

I did not know that!

He was a wonderful character actor and always seemed to having fun with any role he played. He'll be missed.:(
