AIMbots automatically added
Brief article explaining:
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05322/608317.stm I was really annoyed the other day when I logged onto AIM and saw that these were automatically added. I, of course, deleted them quickly (thankfully they are able to be deleted). Now, i'm your smarter than average computer user, I know what i'm doing and have never had any sort of virus on my computer. BUT, I really thought I might have gotten one, because that was totally new and weird with no warning. Hell, I did a full system scan and everything. What do you all think of these stupid things added by AOL? |
I noticed that yesterday and I was pretty pissed about it. I was also pissed that when I deleted them, I got an IM telling me that I had deleted them.
|
I signed in yesterday night around 6:30 (I just happed to, I hardly ever use the actual program anymore, I check my email through aol.com, just because most of my college friend still have that email) and I didn't get them...so maybe AOL got the message quick and had deleted them by then???
|
Whoa I also just noticed that when I went to Google that my gmail address was up at the top of the screen.
Big Brother is watching, yo. |
Yeah, I thought that was kind of weird. I mean....did we even get the option of having them added? I deleted them as soon as they were added.
|
I also deleted then. I hate that kind of isht. But, I didn't get another IM telling me that I deleted them. That is f'ed up.
Just out of curiosity, did everyone get the same "AIMbots"? Or were there different ones? I think the ones I had were something like shopping and movies. Just wondering if that is what everyone else had too. |

Yep, they irritated me too. I thought my kids had downloaded something Bad. I deleted them also.
|
I thought they were added cos I had to redownload AIM go get the new version when I did a system check that same day. I got the shopping bot and the movie bot. I deleted the shopping bot but I kept the latter for some reason.

Yea, it bugged me when AIM added that to my buddy list. |
Umm, did you guys notice that AIM also added that "stop right clicking, use away page!" message to everyone's profile? And you can't take it off.
|
I didn't get any such thing. Were they added just to folx who use AIM, but are not AOL regular subcribers?
